Looking at SS Suite on Zuiderdam for next July. Available on Deck 6 and Deck 8. I assume that verandas on Deck 6 would be covered. Deck 8 below Lido. Are there covered and any problems with noise? Any particular location better?

We had an SS on deck 8 (Navigation) and it was a great location. No problem with noise from above ... or anywhere else for that matter.

I am just trying to decide if it is worth it to switch from a category B to a cetegory SS. Any opinions?

I understand that category does not have priority tendering, so I guess essentially it is just a larger room. Am I understanding this correctly?

You are correct that the SS is a larger room - I would say twice as big. And the layout is so much nicer than a B. The veranda is probably twice as big. You do not get any extra amenities but I think it is really worth the upgrade.

If there is very little difference in the pricing I would say definitely go for the SS.
We paid just a tiny bit more then the CAT A and loved this stateroom. (We were on deck 8 - very little noise with Lido directly above). The bathroom is quite large,(separate tub and shower and double sinks) and 2 people could actually walk without bumping into each other in the same room. KAKcruiser is right - the balcony was quite a bit larger - 2 comfortable chairs and ottomans and a table with 2 additional chairs fit nicely. I wish this size stateroom was available on all the ships.

Are the balconies on Deck 8 covered?

We were in an SS cabin #8047 on May 8. This room was great. I would warn you not to book more than one room further aft because there is equipment from the pool across the hall in the area where the hallway juts a little. It is very noisy in the rooms around there and in the hallway. It doesn't bother you to walk through there. I believe most of the side balconies are covered because there is a balcony or a deck above you. I have heard from others that the rooms right by the elevators are not very good either.

Enjoy! Much has been said about this ship, but I believe a cruise is what you make it. Half Moon Cay is worth the whole trip.

Since they are in the recessed, mid ship area, is the view not as good as those rooms very forward or aft on the parts of the ship which extend out a bit? Is it a problem being over the life boats? Do those obstruct the view when looking toward the beautiful water?

Anyone with view information? I've got to decide this morning. I love the look of the room, but don't want to look back or foward and see mostly ship, or down into life boats.

We had SS 8063--lovely view, privacy. I can't tell you about others but I assume most are as wonderful as ours.

Considering two SS suites - 8099 and 6117 - From ship sketch both seem to be slightly larger than other SS suites. Anyone with personal experience in either cabin?

Both those rooms are bigger, 330 square feet vs. 294 square feet. But because of the angled verandah everyone in the middle section of the ship can look into your verandah, so you have no privacy.

For my cruise these cabins were booked at least a year in advance.
As it is, we have the SS just foward of the angled SS and the two A cabins immediately aft of these other peoples cabins. Its the first time I was not able to get all of our cabins in a row, even booking far in advance, even though the ship is still not booked with SS and S cabins available.
As the kids are older it is not so much of a concern that they are on the other side of someone elses cabins. But I have to think that these people will be less than thrilled. My two daughters are together and then my son and my dad are in the other...

Here's what I'm trying to decide upon. My brother and his partner we're rebooking in 5002, which is the handicapped SS on the Verandah deck. The rest of us will then be on a different deck from them as there are no other SS cabins on that deck. We have two choices.

Leave our girls in the K inside room towards the front of the deck and book ourselves in two of the forward SS suites. This will leave us about 1/3 of the ship away from our daughters (15 and 17), but only 1 deck away from my brother. However, the girls will be pretty far aft, possibly a problem if we hit rough seas.
Move us and the girls to the Navigation deck. Room 8056 (cat. J) is still available along with all the SS cabins near them. Also, this is very close to mid-ship which is an advantage. However, it's right under the Lido deck, but that doesn't sound like it will be a problem. So we could all be right across the hall from each other, but now 3 decks from my brother.
Not sure which we're going to do. Probably just flip a coin.

Orcrone,

I don't know how you managed to book a room for your two girls (15 and 17). I was not allowed to do that. We had to book one adult with one child in both cabins. My girls are 15 and 17 1/2 years old. My ta said that, and even, HA travel agent told me that they will not book a room for people under 21 years of age. We even have two cabins next door to each other. I am hoping when we sign in this Saturday, they will let us switch names for our two rooms. RCI lets us do that every time we cruise with them. Did you use a special travel agent or did you give the girl's correct ages? I am just wondering how it can be done? Thanks for answering:) ;) :) ;)

We also booked one adult and one child in each room. I was just stating how it will wind up (the girl's room). I'm also hoping that we can redo the sign and sail cards at the front desk, otherwise DW and DD will have to switch cards.

Orcrone,

I will be on the Zuiderdam this weekend. I will write a review and tell you if we were able to switch rooms. If not, someone else said to go to the purser's desk and get an extra key for each room. Then one person in each room would have two keys (a correct room key and a room key that would be swiped when leaving and entering the ship).:) ;) :) ;)
