We will be going on a HAL cruise to Alaska on 9/11..spending a week in Vancouver prior to the cruise. What suggestions for things to do in Vancouver? Also, should we rent a car? For sure, we do want to visit Victoria Island.

Since you didn't mention where you were staying in Vancouver, I would rent a car.

There's Gas Town, Stanley Park.

Victoria - Butchart Gardens, Empress Hotel.

Yes, definitely rent a car. By the way, it's the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, and be sure not to miss it. The ferry ride over is spectacular.
