I see where two "suite towels" are for sale (http://cgi.ebay.com/HOLLAND-AMERICA-EMBROIDERED-SUITE-TOWELS-LIKE-NEW_W0QQitemZ270137468573QQihZ017QQcategoryZ35964Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) at an Internet auction site. Since these towels are not offered on the shophollandamerica.com website, I can only assume they were lifted from the ship. I just hope the perp was charged for them!

Yes, they will be charged - and rightly so. We were charged once for a laundry bag that they said we took home with us. We had not, as we never take anything from anywhere - what had happened was that the man who was in the room before us died (his suitcase was still under the bed) and I suspect that in the business of taking care of things the room wasn't prepared as thoroughly. The laundry bag was never there.
Now I check the room when we arrive and make sure that everything is there that should be and then check before we leave also. Sometimes the room steward will forget to leave some of the towels and I always track him down and mention it to him - I am sure they hve to account for every towel in every room and I don't want any charges for towels after we get home. The woman that I spoke with at customer service was very insulting and assumed that we had stolen the bag.
We all end up paying for things that people steal from hotels and cruise ships.

Jim, If they were lifted it was a very long time ago, I would tend to believe what the seller stated as he purchased them at a flea market. I have been in S Suites since 2004 and have not seen these. Possibly they are only on the Prinsendam or a Penthouse?? Maybe some of our other posters like KK or Sail that have been cruising in S Suites on HAL for a long time can tell us if they remember these. It is also possible that they sold these a very long time ago on the ship like the robes are now.

I don't think the Suite towels are worth "taking". At the beginning of the 2007 World Cruise, they were very soft, but by the end of the cruise, the towels were very rough. I know we would NOT want to take one home. Our travel agent did buy us two robes and we love those.

I don't remember the towels being anything special. They were just towels. We were in an SA on the Zuiderdam this past Feb., so maybe they've made a change somewhere along the way.

Wow, I would have been real uncomfortable staying in that room if I had been told someone just died (in that bed?). This was on HAL?
And also, why would anyone lug home towels that others had used....

Could they have been procured with "Dam Dollars?" I seem to recall a lot of folks exchanging those dollars for towels on one of my previous cruises.
Personally, even if they were "lifted," I think anyone going through all that trouble to take something as huge as a big towel home in their luggage must really want that towel bad. No way would I ever consider that. If I want a big towel, I'll go buy one at WalMart before I'll lug it home from a cruise.
On my last two cruises, TA's have given me HAL Bathrobe vouchers. On the last cruise, we actually got the bathrobes wrapped in plastic. In both cases, I marched right down to the front office and exchanged that credit for OBC. No way am I lugging a bathrobe home in my luggage. Again, if I happen to need one, I'll just go to WalMart and buy it when I'm at home. Much easier that way.
Blue skies ...

They were in all suites, including verandah suites on Zaandam in 2002. I loved those towels.

Thanks Judy:) My first HAL cruise was not till April 2003 on the Zuiderdam and we just had a Verandah it was then called a B category. We did not have our first suite till we were on the Ryndam in November 2004. My guess is the towels were PRE Signature of Excellence. They may have even been given away when they started to replace towels on the ships.

Yes Lisa, maybe that is it, They might have been given away when they changed over to Signature of Excellence. I just wish they would have kept those towels!

I also recall those towels being used on the Volendam. The towels were nice but the logo made them less useful.
I dunno Lisa, I think it may be a perfect acquisition for "the shrine"!!;)

In 2005, I made the mistake of cruising with a friend (now a former friend, but that's a much longer story) I really didn't know very well.
I visited his apartment after we got home and he had completely stuffed his suitcase with those nice wooden hangers and he had the bathrobe too, which I know he didn't pay for.
I was very embarrassed......the ship probably thought I took them. I also expected to see a charge on my credit card for the robe, but it never appeared.:o

"Dam Dollars" will buy beach towels, not bath towels.

What are "DAM Dollars"?

What are "DAM Dollars"?
Dam Dollars are given as prize money for participating in onboard games, like a belly-flop contest, or a chicken throw into the pool. I think one day DJ Jazzy was in the pool & folks were tossing hula hoops at his head, trying to "ring" him. If you turn in the first quiz of the day or get the most answers right, you might get a few. The daily program lists those activities that earn Dam Dollars. At the end of the cruise you can purchase certain items, but my understanding is that it takes a LOT of Dam Dollars to buy a Tshirt or towel or totebag or whatever.
As we were waiting to board Noodam this past January, a departing passenger gave me a handful, saying that things cost a lot of Dam Dollars at the end of the cruise. She didn't have enough to purchase anything she wanted & was passing them on.
John & I didn't participate in anything to earn more & wanted to pass on those that we were given to a kid waiting to board after us, but were whisked thru the waiting area with a porter. Hmmmm, I wonder what I did with those?

I hope Jade13 doesn't ever have to be admitted to a hospital. These days about the only way you can get a bed is for someone to die! ;)

You did it! You rescued those towels from some ne'er-do-well who would treat them badly! Before long you'll have a shrine large enough to charge admission to see ... and that's how you can fund future cruises! ;)

And here I thought Brian, the eBay, er, king, ;) would have been the one to buy them.
Wound up being kind of pricey for used towels, didn't they? :)

Vintage Collectors Items - NOW I get it. :)
Very clever. I'd have to come up with something like that to convince John too. ;)
