Hi, my name is Jennie. I would like to know if Hal provides any form of Hot Chocolate while Dining, for breakfast , lunch and at the Evening Meal.
I do not drink tea or coffee unless I have to, and while Celebrity provides sachets to make your own for casual dining , and a jug in the Evening, MSC and Princess did not.
Oh, and do I have to pay for it ? :D
Any info . appreciated.....

The Instant Hot chocolate packets are out for breakfast and lunch in the Lido. If you don't see them just ask and they will get them for you. Same thing for dinner in the main dining room - you have to ask for them.

Hi Jennie,
In early June we sailed the Oosterdam from Seattle to Hubbard Glacier. The Lido hot chocolate was quite good. We remarked to each other that: "...the Dutch know chocolate..."

The only time HAL makes big pots of hot chocolate is when you are at the glaciers. Last year there was a gimmick to it - they served it in special thermal mugs which you had to buy - the hot chocolate was free not the mugs.

I always have a mug of hot cocoa at bedtime. I recall reading on an earlier posting that on HAL this was available from room service free. (Princess charges for it.) Is that in fact true? Certainly don't want to be buying 7 thermal mugs :-) ! And, I consider hot cocoa or hot chocolate the same thing -- is there a difference on HAL that I should be aware of when placing my order?

Does Princess charge for room service tea, coffee, or orange juice? Hal doen't.

No, not for coffee -- & I believe tea would be the same & juice is on the morning menu. But bedtime cocoa/hot choc was $3.00.

I can't say for HAL, but on Star Princess last fall my wife and I had hot chocolate at dinner each night, since the coffee was so bad. It came in a metal pot, enough for four servings.

Hot chocolate was available in the Lido. Did have a cup each time at lunch on the Noordam on the Southern Caribbean cruise last Feb. Not sure about the dining room. It was not provided in packets, but was readily available in the urn near the coffee.:)

Just like the Noordam, there was chocolate in the lido during our April cruise on the Oosterdam...it was right next to the coffee and quite good...DB

Last May, while in Alaska I called room service every day and asked for a pot of hot chocolate. They would send enough for about 2 1/2 cups. It was very tasty. It was also available in the Lido.

I did see the packets in the Lido at breakfast. You can also buy it at the Expeditions Lounge if you get a hankering between mealtimes.
I do believe that it is on the room service menu, too.
Have a great cruise!

KK....this must be a change. Last year I specifically ask the lady selling the mugs if she would put some in my own cup....she said no. This was on the Zaandam last September to Glacier Bay.
I got around it by having room service bring a couple of pots of hot chocolate and some cookies to my room. Very convenient because our cabin was right near the door to the promenade deck so I could grab my HC and go out and look at the glacer.
I hope the way you had it on your ship goes back to the other ships next year to Alaska.

In previous years we were always able to get hot chocolate when we were at the glaciers - in a regular cup so no extra charges. Needless to say we just went back to the Neptune Lounge to get our hot chocolate. I wasn't about to pay for a thermal mug that we didn't want. There was a time when they also had a cart which we could have a shot of peppermint, or anything like that added to the hot chocolate (not free) - even that has disappeared.

The only place you will have to pay for the hot chocolate is if you get it at the Explorations Cafe.
Otherwise it is free.

I was on the Oosterdam Dec 17 06 and the hot chocolate on the lido deck at the beverage island was out of this world. Self service except when code red was on and crew served us. Also they serve in small pots for room service. Found out later that they use " Nestle " type "Rich Chocolate" HAL makes it Rich at home we use 3 packets in a 14oz cup to make it as HAL.
