I have some bedding questions. Are egg crates and duvets only available to those living the "suite" life? Are the egg crates asked for because of the beds being pushed together and uncomfortable? Thanks for your help!

I can't see anyone needing an egg crate foam bed pad. The Mariner Dream Beds are sooooo comfortable. We never had an issue with the middle of the bed when the twins were made into a queen. But if someone needs a foam pad, then ask your cabin steward. They aren't just for suite guests.

T1980:
My wife has a bad back and typically asks for an egg crate when we stay at motels.
However, after sleeping on the HAL Mariner Dream Bed two years ago on the Zaandam, she came home from the cruise and ordered the bed directly from HAL.
We have slept on the kings in the SS category cabins and on the queens (two twins pushed together) in other cabins and don't have a problem.

I noticed you mentioned kings in SS categories. I thought those were queen size?

Thanks. I was hoping you were right. We are used to a king at home, but from what I hear the mattresses are so great it won't matter if it is only a queen!

We have had problems with these new mattresses on HAL the last couple of years. The ones that we have had in our suites have been worn out!!! And I have mentioned this here a couple of times. Both of us have back problems, so we call Ship Services and order Egg Crates (only come in twin size).

Egg crates are what Celebrity has been using for years to make their beds slightly less cot-like...
...unline HAL who installed real mattresses aboard all their ships a couple years ago.

It could be that the steward is new to HAL and hasn't been trained on pulling the twin-size mattress pads off the beds and using the queen-sized pad when they're pushed together.
