I missed Dutch night on our first cruise. I know NOTHING about Dutch culture/traditions/food and am wondering if I should try to experience it in the dining room this time around.
What kinds of foods are served?
(Can my 2 year old still get french fries and chicken nuggets?)
It Dutch night just as yummy as all the other HAL food?
THANKS<

This is the menu on Dutch Night on the Maasdam several weeks ago. I didn't put all the Dutch names, but you can figure out what is served. There are a number of 'from the Grill' choices if you do not find something Dutch that is appealing.
DAY 4- Dutch Night
Fruit Medley
Bay Shrimp Cocktail
Dutch Ham w/ Asparagus
Grilled Chicken Sate
Beef Consomme w/ Vermicelli and Meat Balls
Dutch Green Pea Soup
Chilled Three Berry Soup
House Salad
Greens w/ Endive Salad
Seafood (shrimp, scallops, & mussels) in lobster sauce
Dutch Beef Pot Roast
Nasi Goreng-Fried Rice Dish w/ Pork
Asparagus Risotto
Duck Breast- from the Grill
Pork Chop- from the Grill
Halibut Medallion- from the Grill

IMO, Dutch night is much more fun than the deck BBQ, which is usually the same night.

:)
On most of our cruises we have preferred to eat in the dining room on Dutch Night rather than go to the BBQ. In fact, on our last few cruises, we have noticed that less and less people have attended the BBQ.
And don't forget about the cute little hats everyone can wear at dinner and take home as a souvenior.

We only went to the BBQ once and I thought it was horrible. Love Dutch night in the DR, don`t wear the hats but they are cute. After reading on a lot of threads that they no longer serve whole Dover sole I don`t know what I`ll order. I usually get a side of Bami Goreng to go with the sole. Don`t miss the pea soup, its delicious also the Dutch apple pie.....jean

I think, between my DH and me, we have tried every item on the Dutch Night menu and have enjoyed every one of them. My personal favorites have been the Dover Sole and the Bami Goreng. DO NOT MISS DUTCH NIGHT.
I have never thought the BBQ night was anything special, plus you have to stand in long lines and then have your food get cold while you find a place to sit and something to drink. Sort of your average Ryan's Steak House on a raft in my opinion.

Dutch Night is one of our favorites. If you like Pea Soup go for it. Dover Sole used to be on the menu but I have read the on some cruises, it is no longer offered.
We did the BBQ once, Dutch Night in dining room wins hands down. We are not into standing in line either.

Hmm... Well, the Dover Sole on Dutch Night was some of the best food I've had on a cruise (the bami goreng and the erwetensoep - pea soup - were also delicious). Please HAL, bring back the sole!

Host Doug,
I have to agree with you about the Dover Sole. It was the Best! I liked the Bami Gorgeng and on many cruises we ordered it to be split between us, more like a seperate course.
Please Hal, bring back the Dove Sole.

:)
On day 5 of our 13 day cruise on the Maasdam in May, the Dover sole was on the menu.
Maybe it is only going to offered on cruises longer than 7 days???
