Fellow Travelers,

My DD is in Rome awaiting going to the dock to board the Westerdam for a Western European Cruise. She has the symptoms of Pink Eye and possibly has a throat infection along with some serious jet lag. She is boarding today and I have searched the deck plans and cannot locate the medical clinic. any idea where it is on the ship? I think the cost is 50.00 per visit, is this right and they do have a pharmacy aboard the ship correct. Thank you for your help. this nurse and mother is trying to help across the seas.

If I remember it's on the deck below Main Deck forward. We had to visit there a couple of years ago in the Caribbean.

There will be information in her cabin with directions.

Linda,
There is a "health" statement that you have to complete. There is a possibility that they will not let her board if they consider any of her symptoms to be infectious. I don't remember if it contains statements about anything other than GI symptoms but it might, I haven't seen the form since last September. I don't even know who makes the final decision. They may refer her to the doctor or nurse on board before they clear her to board. I have a friend that used to do this for RCI and I think those were random screenings for upper respiratory problems. I'm not trying to scare you, just giving a "heads up".

I don't want to panic you, but I think I read where if she has any symptoms of Noro she may have trouble boarding.

Correct, ldog, it's on "A deck", below Main, and not shown on most deck plans because there's nothing else down there for passengers. It is accessible only from the forward-most elevator bank. :)

Beccah had to have allergy testing prior to leaving for Rome. She is highly allergic to cats one of the things they injected her with prior to her trip. The allergist talked with the onboard MD and ordered her some eye drops. They let her on and she is sailing on the Westerdam as I type.
Thanks for all your help.

So glad to hear this worked out! :) Please do let your daughter know that we would very much appreciate hearing her thoughts on the "new" (post-retrofit) Westerdam when she returns! Best wishes to her for a great cruise, with all medical problems solved or reduced to nuisance level.

Promise I will let you know how it is going and what her thoughts are on the ship. She has been on the Zaandam and the Volendam, so this is her first time on one of the megaships.

Linda,
I am so glad everything worked out for Beccah. I hope she has a wonderful time on the Westerdam. I'm looking forward to your reports as we will be on for the transatlantic in October.

Hope she has a great cruise. We enjoyed the Westerdam, except for DH's health issues - medication and sun mess up. But we like the smaller ships better.
