We'll as a Carnival sahreholder I am all for better profits, but just wondering what sets them so apart to justify there pricing...because they can sounds so like a Bill clinton answer!

Because They Can is an economic answer. The highest the market will bear is what should be charged. Obviously people must feel what HAL offers and at that price is a fair value.

I have never really examined the different prices on the exotic cruises. Now you have me curious. Will have to spend some time checking this out as I am curious.
Could it be that Princess has been doing the exotic cruises longer than HAL? And their ships carry more passengers? Their rooms are smaller, therefore they have more cabins, more passengers - lower prices???

On the surface they appear too me to be overpriced....I hope the experience is worth it...was considering a 21 day South America cruise but it work out to be over $275.00 a day per peson for a cat A....

Check out on icruise the special for the Ost. 10/24 and 10/31 prices--amazing! Some outside cabins with tax, port charges, and everything are like 600 a person for a week!

Yes they are competative on Carribbean cruise cause they have no choice ...there's so much choice, but on other sailings they come in very pricy!

This is soooooo strange. I don't have a box as you described. I have a long rectangular box under the message box, and that smilie goes in the title area. I'm on AOL. I wonder if that is the problem since we AOL users had problems signing on when the new boards were first installed.

$275 a day in a cate A (which is a mini suite on Amsterdam) is a great rate! I think depending on the promotion HAL is very competitive

Go to User CP and then on the Control Panel list go to Edit Options and click. At the very bottom of the Edit Options- Miscellaneous Options- be sure it is set on Standardized Editor. That's how I was told by a friend to get the Smilies and it worked. :)

Highroller and Avalon -
$275.00 per day - one in CA$ and one in US$ - hardly the same thing.
Are you both including all taxes and air?

July 25th, 2004, 02:41 PM
No were talking in George W" bucks and not including port charges either or air ...you find this a great deal as a per diem?...HAL must be great but no way to charge as much or more than Seabourn!

I don't think HAL's pricing is considered expensive. The Balcony cabin I have booked on the Princess Sun in February is priced higher than the suites on the Maasdam on my October sailing. Maybe I'm not comparing apples to apples but both are 10 day carribean sailings. Most lines have some "value season pricing".
HighRoller
July 25th, 2004, 03:44 PM
But that's precisely my point HAL has no choice but to be very competitive in the Carribbean because of competiton with Celebrity, RCCI, Princess etc...but the same cabin outside teh Carribbean is double teh price on HAL..same cabin, same food, same ship, same supposed great servie...this is my point!

He Is Not Confusing Ships, just Saying That I Consider Hal A Higher Product Than That Of Princess But Crystal Is Superior To Both Lines And Have Reduced Their 2005 Rates Considerably.
They Appreciate That Retirees Incomes Are Much Affected By This Low Interest Rate Enviroment:(

That sounds like a nice cruise you're considering. I'd book it, even tho it would mean getting a lower category cabin.
I have my eye on a 20 day Canada/Trans-At on the QE2 for next year.
But, if I really want to go (kinda like your dilemna), I'll book a smaller cabin with a porthole.
So what if you're sacrificing a 'balcony' .... if you want to go, take anything
that's available. At least you'll be on that cruise enjoying yourself.
Remember what they say .....

High roller,
HAL was/is high on the upcoming SA cruises. We looked into going on the Amsterdam, but found we could get a CC (concierge class) cabin on Celebrity for considerably less which we did. Others must have figured the same thing since the Celebrity SA cruises have been sold out for weeks.
However, we just booked back to back European cruises on the Rotterdam for next June at rates less than Celebrity was asking. Go figure.

Although we have enjoyed several HAL cruises, we booked on Oceania for the holiday South America cruise. The HAL price (including airfare from my nearest airport) for the 21-day cruise is approximately $8600 per person for a verandah suite (284 sq ft). Our price for Oceania for a 17-day cruise with a similar route (except it doesn't go to Rio), is approximately $5500 per person for a Penthouse Suite (322 sq ft). The Oceania Insignia carries only about half as many passengers as the Amsterdam.
It seemed like a no-brainer to try Oceania for this much difference in price.

As To Land Vacations In Hotels Such As The Inter In Moorea, Think The Prices Are Out Of Sight And Make Cruise Reasonable In Comparison:)

Price comparisons must also include consideration of what is and is not included in the rate and obviously type of cabin. We have cruised HAL 4-5 times in the last couple of years, but we have also found very competitive prices on luxury lines that often were less than what HAL charges when you total your tab. For example, last year we cruised on The World (verandah) for $175 pp, per day, all inclusive. This year, we will cruise Silversea (verandah), also all inclusive, for $243 per day and Crystal (outside cabin), not all inclusive, but includes more than HAL, for $191 per day. These special offers require some diligence to find, but when you compare these prices to some of those on HAL and consider what is included on the other lines, they come real close. And...we like HAL very much.

KHUN-Liked the World very much, particularly that they often stay in a port for 2-3 days. We had one of the verandah suites, but not an apartment. We were in several and they were quite nice. Since the owner's have purchased the ship, the rate has been increased substantially.
