Seattle,
I need your help. I am looking at going on the Zaandam in April from Port Canaverl to Vancouver. My girlfriend and I like to sleep in something with a balconey. We dont like the prices we have been getting from our agency. I saw that you said you work for Holland America. Do you have a number where i can contact you at? Do you work in the reservation dept? Any Help you can give me would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Might you be referring to Steve Garrod? His website is www.shipcafe.net (http://www.shipcafe.net)

Check the prices at some of the online travel sites. We have used ************* for our last 7 cruises and been very happy with them. Ask for Joan at ext 226. Their web site is:

www.*************.com

There are a lot of internet cruise companies to check. This is just one we have experience with.

Have a great next cruise.

Hi Everyone,

My handle is "ShipCafe" and I am not signed up as "SeattleHollandDude". I also don't have any pricing or promotional information for HAL.

I just do the ship photos, Ma'am ;)

Absolutely fabulous presentation of ship tours. I have visited several times in anticipation of my upcoming Prinsendam cruise. BTW ... Thanks for the updates to that site.

Add me to the list of those who truly enjoy your photos.

I'm wondering who Seattle Dude is.....I'm guessing but don't know ;) I always think it great when we have someone from HAL come here to definitively answer questions. We then know we are getting the real "skinny".

I couldnt agree more Sail. Hal employees are usually pretty update on things.

Shall we all take "guesses" as to the "real" identity???;) :D :)

I think HAL employees would need to be very careful when posting anything on these boards. I read a few posts by SeattleHollandDude and was pretty surprised by some of the posts - I did not get the feeling this person was posting from the position of a HAL representative. Maybe works for HAL, but surely not authorized to speak on HAL's behalf.

We cruised on the Maasdam with a HAL Marketing Veep who advised us they pretty much stay away from posting anything (or read posts like dress code), unless it is along the lines of what Steve (Shipcafe) posts, just public information, photos, etc.

I also read that as of 7/26/04 - no more mention of any TA's, whether they are online, bricks & mortar or otherwise... this is probably a good thing, but the logic behind the change was because posters are trying to steer traffic in the direction of certain TA's - well, if you have a good TA, and someone asks for a recommendation, of course you'd be steering them... but, oh well.

I think it is important that any travel agent or cruiseline employee indentify themselves on these boards, but post information only - no recommendations for anything like Seattle Dude was posting... JMO.

btw- Steve, I always enjoy checking out your web-site, thanks again for taking the time to provide all the great pictures and information!

I imagine if SeattleHollandDude is as smart as I'm sure he is CC has seen the last of him posting, at least under that name and saying he works for HAL. I'm sure no one in the Seattle office would appreciate their names being thrown around as possible posters on any cruise message board.

I thought it was rather strange to begin with. He just joined, he only posted 4 times and it was all on the same thread. I would of thought he would of posted on other threads.

He may have been told by HAL to stop posting... there are HAL employees who monitor these boards as guests - maybe someone saw his posts and reported him to his supervisor or something. At my work, we are prohibited to post on message and forum boards related to our specific industry. Our management takes the position that any information we (employees) post can be attributed to the Company's official position, which can be a liability.

I thought the whole thing was really bizarre - but I have to agree with Peaches, we've probably seen the last of him...
