Some of my sources are telling me that some drastic changes are being considered for Half Moon Cay. After looking over the list it should make it a more entertaining visit for a large segment of our cruiseing friends....

THEY ARE CONSIDERING:

1. The left side of the island beach is going to be converted to a geriatric, wheelchair accessable, clothing optional beach. There will be special ramps so that wheelchairs can go into the water.

2. They are going to put in an Oxygen bar with flavored oxygens.

3. A colonic station will replace the massage parlors.

4. A prune juice and cranberry juice stand will replace the bar.

5. Herbal vitamin shops will replace the snack bar.

6. Psychiatric counselors will be available (for a fee) to explain why things are different than they were 40 years age.

7. Specail wheelchairs will be available with tractor tread for use in the sand...

Have a nice day

Jim is back

Welcome back Jim. We missed your ..er... unusual sense of humor. Drop in on the blender thread. I'm sure you'll have some interesting insight.

As far as flavored oxygen goes, you never know. 20 years ago who would figure that people would pay $4.00 for fancy coffee. "What, I can get a bottomless cup of coffee for 69 cents. This Starbucks idea will never get off the ground."

Jim, the clothing optional beach could be interesting, but I suggest we have to leave all eye glasses on board the ship, cabana boys or girls available for escort but hearing aids can remain in ears:cool:

Wow!! Let's see, geriatric, clothing optional. I think the psychiatric services will be really necessary there. I'm glad they are free. I hope they include free meds to calm people down.

Jim, you can tell I haven't been on these boards that long ... for a second my mouth hung open in disbelief and then I cracked up:D . Welcome back; I know you were missed. Everyone so worried about you. I've enjoyed so many of your posts and this one takes the cake.

Ah Jim, you're back and in fine fettle. Did we hear that work has been a bear lately? Would this list of upgrades be a reflection of some frustration spilling over from the daily grind? Hang in there! With any luck we will all be in a position somewhere down the road to change the way the geriatric set behaves, or at least the way that age group is perceived.

I do question why the psychiatric service tho, oh yes, it's the short-term memory that goes first!! How can you relive the good old yesterday if it's gone for good. You're left with 40 years ago.

I do speak from experience having a lot of experience with a particularly trying 90 year-old relative.

Hey Charlie2na, haven't you seen the senior citizen body builders on Oprah? Give us a break, there is still time to mold that body!

Hey Charlie2na, haven't you seen the senior citizen body builders on Oprah? Give us a break, there is still time to mold that body!Senior citizen body builders molding their body is the exception. Most of the time we have moldy bodies before we become senior citizens.

(Just a joke. Please no flaming).:D :)

Ain't it the truth!!

Can't imagine anyone finding fault with your statement unless it hits a bit too close for comfort. Was going to say too close to the bone, but first you have to find the bones. "Gee, I sure can see my hips, so there must be bones in there somewhere!" Speaking only of myself, of course.

My hearing aids don't work in salt water. Maybe we can get HAL to change the sea to fresh water.

When I first read this post I thought it was some sort of tongue-in-cheek attack on HAL's clientele. But from the response of all you folks, I guess it must be okay to cast aspersions on the aged. Man, I just can't wait to get old and develope an understanding sense of humor like this. I have seen many others get flamed for writing something like this, but I suppose Jim must be a regular , huh?

Ruth and I are both in our 60's and are regular HAL cruisers and regulars on this board.

Ruth spends a lot of her time in a wheelchair so we take it very lightly.

This thread was done as harmless humor and most everyone has taken it that way. If you think this one is bad look up the one I did on our ROADTRIP from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale back in april prior to that cruise.

Both of us are registered nurses and I do home health nursing and one of the things I see is that we have lost the ability to laugh at ourselves and life in general. If I can bring a smile to someone's face or a little laughter I think that I have accomplished something.

PS:

The Oxygen bar will be located downwind from the Cigar Bar and the Colonic Stations........

You know the only "aged" I was laughing at was myself!!! ( Okay I admit I also chuckled at JimV cause I know what a rascal he is!!!)

Snorkeling is a bit harder than it used to be, but I love it and will try to do it even if they have to strap the oxygen on my back:eek:

Jim's right, if ya can't laugh, why breath??

:D Ah, Jim, you are sooooo right. The day we stop laughing at ourselves is a sad day indeed. I so enjoy the humor you bring to this board and particularly enjoyed your "roadtrip" posts.

It takes far less energy to smile than to frown.

And I really use hearing aids.

It was bad turning 70 and 1/2. Lipitor for my chlorestoral. Some drug whose name I can't spell for the high blood pressure. Hearing aids so I can understand my grandchildren. But the worst was when they made me start to take money out of my IRA.

At least the teeth are still mine.

Although I am not a nurse, I share an understanding of home health care with Jim and Ruth, but from the management side, not patient care. I can appreciate the wonderful work they do and the conditions under which they sometimes must work. I also know the wonderful rewards of the personal one-on-one kind of patient care and family interactions they experience.

Sometimes you care so much about your patients it hurts. Sometimes a situation is so funny or so ludicrous that you can laugh for a whole day about a 5 minute encounter. Sometimes you are so frustrated with the health care system you could scream. Sometimes you tear your hair over a stubborn patient even while you admire their tenacity. Many of your patients are in the geriatric group so you gain a unique perspective.

Jim and Ruth and all other home care staff and family caregivers, I salute you!

So, I guess as part of all these new fangled changes coming about, I will no longer be able to handcarry a case of my own brand of prune juice on board the ship ??

I have never had to smuggle on board, but I will by cracky !! And the first whipper snapper that questions my case of Havoline motor oil in my carry on luggage is going to get kicked in the shin !!

Okay Jim, thanks for the explanation. I am fairly new to this board so I didn't quite understand. A sense of humor is a "funny" thing.

Jim,
Did you ever see the movie "The road to Wellville"?
Some healthcare providers were just ahead of their time.
