View Full Version : Something interesting about booking

On my Maasdam cruise the price shown for the NN and N categories (lowest categories on the ship) were higher than verandah rooms. Over the last couple of weeks the inside categories have been disappearing as they've been sold out. This morning the last inside cabin must have been sold as every inside aside from NN and N disappeared and the NN category was lowered to a 'reasonable' price (at least below the cost of an outside). The N category is still expensive.
Why do you think they would hold a low category open by raising the price, until the other insides are sold?

I have noticed that as well on other sailings, wonder why?????? Are these the cabins they perhaps save for guarantee's and see how the bookings go?

Are these the cabins they perhaps save for guarantee's and see how the bookings go?They couldn't use them for guarantees because they're below the category of the sold rooms. For instance, if I booked a K guarantee, they've got to give me K or above.

:)
That does seem strange. You would think that they would want to get rid of the more expensive cabins first. It would seem reasonable to offer upgrades and let the cheap bottom category cabins go last.

Ocrone, that's true, very strange, isn't it.
Another thought, could these cabins be used for the onboard entertainers, like the singers, comedian's, etc.??

I would think it would work as KK suggests......I don't understand the way they had it priced, either.

Another flipside to the pricing structure... when you can purchase an outside cabin cheaper than an inside cabin 5 months in advance (when there are still plenty of insides of that category showing). My only guess was that in this situation the pricing was more to be on an uppder deck versus a lower deck, so inside versus outside didn't matter.

Yes, it is strange. Our 9/20 Prinsendam sailing is now showing (on the HAL website) an inside MM guarantee for $3,711 ... while an AA guarantee is $3,705. Go figure!

I know Marc - it seems strange. I saw that yesterday too. Prices vary among the online sites. There are still inside "L" cabins available on the sailing.
My guess is the ship is filling up. I don't know why the pricing is so strange (only 2 rooms at N are higher than the Verandah cabins right now). I would guess our sailing is not going to have any more price reductions at this point and wouldn't be suprised of a sell-out by next month sometime. Good thing you locked in on that special cabin :D

Maureen,
The website I went to didn't even have the 'L' rooms available today. I keep looking for my 'E' to go down in price, but right now it's more than I paid so I'm resigned to no more price reductions. I got a very good deal on the cruise and am quite happy with the price. But it's always nice to get an extra little present.

(Orcrone: I know you are debating upgrading to an SS, from an A, I think. Ask about email contract 125. The cost was very reasonable to go from a B to an SS.)
Yes, the prices on the HAL website are crazy.....you can book a number of categories higher for lower prices. The whole thing confuses me.

What's e-mail contract 125? Is it a promo or something else?
Thanks,

I guess it is some sort of promo, not really sure.
