I'm booked on deck three on the Journey which is the lowest deck with cabins. I've never been on a cruise before. Would I be better off with an an obstructed view on deck six than a porthole on deck three? Is it noisier down below? This is a 12 day western Med cruise. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi Sailor !
Personally, I would choose the Deck 3 porthole over the Deck 6 obstructed view. Although, I have a feeling that some may feel differently. The reason I choose the porthole, is that the obstructeds usually have very little of a view (if anything). So, if a view is important to you, I feel you made the right choice.
Perhaps some of our other Cruise Critic friends who have been on Journey or the other R-Class ships can offer some additional thought on this subject. Enjoy your Cruise !

Also, you mention that this is your first cruise. The lower in the ship, the less motion for possible seasickness (low and mid ship moves the least)
You may want to ask the cruiseline the percentage of obstruction for the cabins they are offering you. Once in a while you can get in between two lifeboats and be just fine.
Hope you enjoy you cruise!!

Western Med cruises are generally quite port intensive. While I don't know your exact itinerary, you will probably not have more than 2 sea days. You will only be in your cabin to sleep and change clothes. You'll be fine in your deck 3 cabin.

Having been on the ship when it was Renaissance I would go for deck 6....obstruction is not too bad if you pick carefully. Deck 3 I think used to be crew cabins....may have engine noise and vibration.

After reading a review by Timber I changed our reservation to #7006. It will offer a little more space and a better view. I don't mind having a "wake-up call" in the morning and the view from the porthole looked very nice. (I'm referring to the pictures supplied by Timber) Thanks Tim! I also like the idea of being on a higher deck. I'm sure you are right about those having been crew cabins as there are only about 10 cabins down there and nothing else! Thanks for the tip!

I'm going to be in cabin 6033, which is an Obstr. View. However, it has the Zodiac in front of it and therefore the view isn't bad. The 'bad' thing about the Obstr. View cabins is they are generally SMALLER than those of the same category on decks 3 & 4. I wasn't aware that there were such cabins on Deck 7...or did you pay extra to get out of the Obstructed View category.
There are photos that someone provided for me, of the view out 6033's windo. If you do a search for it, I'm sure you'll find it.
Good luck.

$100 each for me and my husband. I'll look for your pictures. What is a zodiac?
