Hi Cruisers!
I'm trying to find the old jingle / ad for P&O and or Fairstar. You remember the ones "Take me away, please P&O" and "Fairstar the fun ship, there's so much fun on the one ship".
Have tried youtube with no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find them?
Thanks!

scroll down the WAM list on the right and you will find "P&O take me away" jingle. I guess you can play it over and over and write out the words?

I reckon they should give Lisa C-K the flick and bring back "Take Me Away" for the arrival of the new lovely lady - "Dawn Princess". It's catchy, fun and still as relevant today as it was back in the early '90s.

I dont think i have ever heard that song. I downloaded it to check and no i cant recall hearing it. Maybe because cruising wasnt in my vocabulary then!!

BTW a warm welcome to Calz, a new member and already proving invaluable

Yes, welcome Calz :) You'll love it here!

Jessica, I agree RE: LCK - she just doesn't 'sell' cruising to me.

I remember the "take me away" ad from when I was a kid. I used to love singing along hehe :p I also recall my parents had a deck of cards with P&O on them. Don't know where they got them though as i'm the only cruiser in our family. I swear I must be adopted!! :p

Thanx for the welcome :)
It's been so much fun reading these message boards!

I remember the jingle very well too, but I can't remember what the ad looked like...probably lots of sunsets, loungechairs and cocktails....

To Carlz, and any other tragics that need a bit of nostalgic Love Boat relief. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icAwcByaNtY

I watched the show regularly, and would watch it again if TV1 were to pick it up.

There is no way that I was ever inspired to become Gopher though.:)

Geri,
Can't think of any characters that were worth relating to. When I was watching, I was at the age where Julie was interesting though, and I used to think that Charo had class.

Think the life of a barman would be OK, but I'm not as cool as Isaac - and all this RSA stuff now as well.

I think that when I grow up, I want to be like the chef in Carry on Cruising. SS Happy Wanderer for me - Prunes & spaghetti - yum

NBN Newcastle used to have a travel show every Sunday night when I was growing up, called Jayes Travel Time. Cruises were often promoted. Seem to remember that Honiara was a popular cruise port in those days.

As for the P&O \ Fairstar request, I can remember some words, but can find no extra links to anything.
...Fairstar the Fun Ship, too much fun for one trip.... (or something like that).

Cheers

Hi Jessica, yep, I agree with you. The Lisa C-K ads are boring. I loved those "Take Me Away" ads and would like to see them again.

Best wishes, Pink Poodle.

Lisa Curry Sausage is very talented click for proof (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATjTRLENWOY)

I haven't seen these P&O \LCK ads. Have only seen a bit of her in the DVD. Take me away ads certainly worked, as we still remember them after all those years.

Geoff, thanks for the Love Boat link. Like others, I used to love that show and would watch it again if it was on Fox.

Or at least show that Cruise Ship series which was on a few years ago. The one where the entertainer was named Penny. I keep looking to see if they are repeating that one. Can't remember it's name....

So how about it Fox? Make us cruisers happy.

No, the one I was watching was an english lifestyle program on cruising and what happens on a cruise ship, both passengers and behind the scenes.

A bit like the show Airline.

I did a search and found it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414726/

It was called 'Cruise Ship'.

there was also the "reality" show that featured the cruiseline set up by the same greek guy who started a cheap airline that featured in an airline series. His ships were more like floating ferries all bright orange and sailed around the med

Karon,
That is OUR Sun Princess, back when she was the new girl on the block.
The series was filmed on her & her Sun Class sister ships including Dawn Princess

Initially thought it might be the same as the one Karon mentioned, but your link shows it to be a few years older.

EasyCruise - started up by EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou. Watched a couple, but it all seemed to be about how good Stelios was. More about him than the cruises. That series was called "Cruising with Stelios" in Britain, and has been on Foxtel this year. The name may have been shortened for other countries. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7uEOxyVhbk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7uEOxyVhbk)

Re cruising reality tv.....

Cruise Ship was the Airport/Airline style doco-drama set on the Island Escape, a dodgy 2 star cruise ship that was once a car ferry (this was the one with Penny the entertainer).

Cruiseline was the Easy Cruise promotional series about the introduction of Easycruise 1.

They both get regular airing's on Foxtel here in Australia.

Just to add to all this reality show confusion -
there was a series I saw in NZ (don't think it's been shown here) called The Cruise - it was a lot like Cruiseline only better, it was set on board Celebrity Cruises' Galaxy, and the entertainer in that was a woman called Jane MacDonald.
It was a good show - wish they'd show that one here as well!!

I found this on the net promoting her book -
The rags-to-riches story of singing sensation Jane McDonald, who rose to fame as the headline singer aboard "The Galaxy" which featured in the hugely popular BBC TV series "The Cruise". Jane has since taken the UK by storm. She was the success story of 1998 and her list of achievements and her popularity has escalated since then. Born in the north of England, Jane spent 12 years performing in working men's clubs and singing in the chorus on various cruise ships. She was spotted by a BBC TV documentary team and became the star of "The Cruise" series (which was screened in 1998 and ended its 12 week run with an audience of 12 million viewers per episode). Jane became an overnight sensation. Jane takes the reader back to her childhood, the hard slog round the Northern club and pub circuit, the six years she spent on cruise liners, meeting her husband Henrik, giving up the singing career to be a stay-at-home wife, and finally her big break on "The Galaxy" and the filming of the fly-on-the-wall documentary "The Cruise" which catapulted Jane to stardom.

maybe with how popular cruising is becoming they may bring back some of these shows
