Just curious. About how many hours a day would you estimate you spend on this board? :)

I leave my laptop in my kitchen and it is always on. When I walk by, I take a look. When I come back into the house after being out, I look to see who wrote what. When I'm making dinner, I read whatever is new.

When I have a cruise booked or am in the process of booking one, then about 1 hour cumulative per day. If not, then it varies between 1 hour a week and 1 hour every six months (yeah, I only logged in once between January 2007 and June 2007). If it's within a month or two of a cruise I have booked, then I may spend 2 hours a day....but no more than that.

Probably too many hours! Our roll call is fairly quiet right now so I'm not spending as much time, but when it picks up closer to our Dec. cruise, so will my on-line time.

How much time do I have on my hands?;)
Right now I am in a situation where I have several hours a day of sitting around with nothing to do, waiting for things to happen. So it is a nice way to kill time reading inane posts that I would usually never look at (like this one?)
OTOH when I am working and have meetings to attend and otherwise am living a life, then I only manage to skim a few boards and reply to posts that specifically address topics I am really interested in. Some busy days I actually ::GASP:: don't log on at all!!

I generally visit this site for an hour or so per morning. By then, I've walked 3 miles, and biked 5 miles so I'm ready to log in to see what's up with everyone. :)

Too many hours.
Frankly, it all depends upon what's going on on the board, what's going on in my life and work, and how close my next cruise is to embarkation. When busy busy busy, I check less often and don't read as widely. When I have some free time, I read the board. When I'm getting ready to leave on a ship, I spend MUCH more time due to excitement.

I probably visit around 3 hours per day total. I really go over things in the morning, then do quick scans several times during the day. Maybe a last shot in the evening before bed ... but usually not.

I will add to this FAR Too Much Time:D
I do like many and check back between things I do here at work. I will spend about 30 minutes in the morning prior to getting on the treadmill and showering for work. Then I check in at least 10 plus time in the day for about 5 to 10 minutes each time. Then I spend approx an hour to 90 minutes at night:o Yes, I am really hooked bad.

I'm on and off this HAL forum several times a day, and total 1 to 3 hours depending on what is happening. However, I also spend some time on other places on Cruise Critic, and on many other internet places, so I can be on-line 5 or 6 hours every day. Obviously I'm retired, but other things interrupt my primary hobby some days! :D

Whew!:) I thought I was the only one addicted.
When I'm researching a cruise, ports and excursions, I probably spend 2-3 hrs. a day. Right now, I just check the few areas that I have interest in about twice a day for 10-20 minutes each time. But the nearer it gets to sailing time, the more time I spend.

Thanks everyone for making me feel close to normal.
I'm on some what less than Lisa but more than some of the rest of you. I've only had 2 time lapses since June 2003 and it doesn't matter if we have a cruise planned or not.

I just got up to check my emails, hmm been here about 1/2 hour now, trying to ween myself away from sitting in front of stupid monitor on laptop. Probably just as well I still have dial-up so I get fed up with the slowness and that gets me cracking.
Have a nice day :)

Laura, You actually did very well for a while and stepped away completely. It would be really hard for me to do that now. I know I found this board in Feb 2003 before our first cruise on the Zuiderdam and was here for a few weeks after we returned, then stepped away for about 3 or 4 months till we started to plan our Alaska Oosterdam cruise for 2004 in Fall of 2003. I have been here daily ever since, with the exception of when we are on a cruise and I do not bring my laptop:o

So, if all of you are addicted, does that make it OK for me to be addicted too? I come on in the am with my coffee and by the time I leave the computer (doing various other things online too,)an hour has past. Then I check at lunch time, again around dinner time and sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night I'll check again. It takes time to read what has been posted. I guess there are worse vices than being addicted to a cruise board. Actually, I know there are. :D

Carol dear, if you are getting out of bed to check the boards in the middle of the night, you probably need to talk to someone who can help you, perhaps you might start with talking to a Copper :D

If I spend an hour a day here now, it's a lot. And I'm not on any other boards because it just gets too confusing.
I used to be completely addicted to a point that I would surf from thread to thread reading almost everything. Finally I realized it was just too much. I was definitely addicted and since I have a problem with addiction, I knew it was time to step away. It was much easier than I thought it would be.
Now there are days I don't come to the HAL board at all. For me it's just better to have CC as a small addition to my life. I couldn't give it up entirely because I really enjoy talking with others who love to cruise and I've gotten to know so many great people here.
I have one very important thread that I post to every single day, but that's not on the HAL board.

Too much for me too. I did take about a six month break after my last cruise(October 2006). Well, I am back, and now have 2 cruises booked, lol. I found the board late April 2003, and sailed 5 times in 2004. I say all this to point out that being on the board is NOT a good thing for me, lol. It causes me to book cruises. I keep telling my dh I am going to go on hiatus again, and he keeps hoping this is true, lol.

About one-two hours a day, except for the 3 days that I work the evening shift, when I don't have any time to access the internet. We used to be able to use the internet at work on our breaks, but the supervisor blocked the access, as she thought people might be using it inappropriately during work time.

 It varies...when we're thinking of booking a cruise, I spend more time than when I'm not in cruise mode. Then, it depends on how much time I have during the day to be on-line. In any event, I'm addicted...no question there!

I get such a kick out of these boards, it's hard to stay away. I read for about an hour most mornings - then check back 4 or 5 times during the day. I don't often contribute, but I do soak in every word. I've learned so much, I almost feel like an old pro!

This week way too many (like 5 or 6) due to excitement of my recently booked 1st TA cruise, and my brand new empty nester status. Next week it better be less (like 1-2). Good info is hard to pull away from, plus I know that if I'm asking questions I better be taking time to try to answer some. Like this "all important" one ;)

On average I probably spend 3 hours a week some weeks then other weeks when I have more time I'll check in daily for an hour or two at a time. Sometimes when I yearn to be on a cruise I'll spend more time dreaming on the boards! When thinking about booking a cruise I do a lot of research here, including checking on other boards for information about ports, hotels, etc. There is a wealth of information here. The closer it gets to a cruise the more time I find to spend - sometimes even staying up later at night.
I do not check from my work computer - I have to stay in line there. However, when on a cruise I'll try to check in and if I travel with my laptop I'll check in as well.

This is an interesting thread because as I read some responses it reminds me how things have changed with the internet and the workplace. I'm astounded how many people can access the internet and CC from work and spend so much time reading and posting here.
I would think by now most companies would have found a way to somehow make it impossible for people to spend time on boards like these. I think my DH was telling me that his office figured out how much down time was caused by the internet and the $$$ loss to the company as a result. They then started to "police" the history of each computer and that was the end of that!!!
I'm so old I can remember when we couldn't even receive personal calls at the office!!! I was just born way too soon:( .

Heather we must both be in the same age bracket! I too am amazed that people can be on the Internet & post to this board while at work...If that was done when we worked, we would have been dismissed from our jobs...It is a $$$ loss to the company..
Our Agents were permitted to accept or make very few personal calls but we also had the Supervisors monitoring & taping their calls to be sure that our customers were getting good service.. Our Agents were required to take 80-100 reservation calls per day..If they were on too many personal calls they were reprimanded by their Supervisors..
One thing I don't do is get on the Internet or even check e-mail when we travel..We don't have a lap-top & for now that's ok...Betty

I think "too much" describes quite a few people here, especially when you look at some of their post totals.
In my case I access CC right after breakfast. Presently I check three boards, Roll Call, which is pretty much inactive for the three cruises we've booked, scan the Alaska board and then spend quite a bit of time reading the HAL board. Some days on the HAL board there are a number of interesting threads and I read a goodly number of them, other days not much of interest and it's a quick few minutes. I also usually check again around 4:30PM and once in a great while just before I go to bed, especially if there's been a couple of interesting threads.
When I have an up-coming cruise, at about three months out, I usually start reading in depth the appropriate port of call boards for that cruise.
So I guess I also qualify as "too much".
