I don't post here often, but I'm home on vacation now and can spend my long days using this much faster, reliable, and cheaper internet reading all your posts :D
It's pretty much the only way I find out the goss about what's happening with my dam ships! I have about a month off, then it's back to alaska.
Keep me entertained!

however did you guess ;)
Yes, and as a, umm... "lower-echelon" employee I'm enjoying my big comfy bed, home cooked food, ample internet, and laundry machines that don't damage my clothes!
And although I miss crew bar prices, my liver sure doesn't ;)

I also get the feeling that you work on a ship.
Wonder if we have met you?
Enjoy your month off.

Looking at your cruising CV, I pretty sure we haven't been on the same ship... yet...
We could play 20 questions while everyone works out where I've been and what I do!
I'm already bored at home :o

Ya....so okay; paint stupid on my forehead.
I just reread your thread title.
How many stupid days a year are we permitted before we get bounced? :D
Enjoy your vacation.......and the comforts of your home.

So - what ships have you sailed on?
Apologies - it's 3am here and I didn't read properly. I saw you were on the Maasdam during the code red earlier this year? I probably served you breakfast one morning when we were helping out the lido guys.
OSDM: Feb-Apr 06
WEDM: May-Oct 06
MADM: Jan-Jul 07
Stat next, for a looooong time

See...... I wasn't kidding when I said I'm having a stupid day.
To reinforce it by posting it twice is going just a little too far!!!
GRRRRR..... sorry. Don't know what stupid thing I did to accomplish announcing twice how clever I'm NOT. :o:

Wow, actually you were there for my last 2 cruises - I signed off the last Boston on 7/7/7. I've just had a couple of interesting weeks dealing with taxes, lost luggage, insurance, now I can relax and actually enjoy!

We did back-to-back cruises on the Maasdam in Feb/Mar. The second ten days the ship was in Code Red.
We ate most of our breakfasts in the Pinnacle.

Pinnacle - smart option! I was lucky, managed to avoid the dreaded NLV this contract...

We have been on quite a few ships with the Norvo Virus and we have also been very lucky and didn't get it.

Could we possibly have met aboard? We were in #020.
We had a great time ...... as I have written here.
It was a fast, easy debark in Boston 7/7/7. We were third off the ship.....
We return to Maasdam for another b-to-b on August 18 and August 25.... with KrazyKruizers. They're also b-to-b.
Love that 'dam' ship.

Sail I know this may be a dumb question, but dont you get bored with the same New England itineraries? I think you've developed a Maasdam addiction :)

Hey vanders, don’t be a stranger, what do you play?
Tell us about being a young, free musician and those bandmate/crew stories, and we’ll regale you with stories of passenger rule breakers that will burn off your ears.;):D

No, Frank, we don't get bored. :)
For us, the ship is more of a destination than where it stops.
We don't get off in every port when in the Caribbean or Canada/New England. Sometimes we skip half or more of the ports or only leave the ship for brief walks ashore.

I guess that is much more relaxing than the frenetic port hoping of Caribbean cruises.... one of these days we have to do a b2b or a crossing!:o

Hehe well since you asked... :D
I'm the sax player in the halcats. I'm now not so young as I once was, but the travel and people I meet are always great.
Next contract is the one to try and save some $$$ - I've said that every contract though...
I'm scared to ask about some of your stories!

Hi Vanders..Welcome! Hope you have a wonderful vacation with your family...It's so nice to have a Crew Member here!:) ...
DH & I hope to book the B to B- BOS-BOS next year on the "Maasdam"..We're straying in Nov. & trying Oceania to the Amazon, but our favorite Cruise Line is still HAL..And that's because you & all your Pals, make it so wonderful for all of us!
We can't actually book it until after the Hurricane season & we get back from our Nov-Dec. cruise...
It would be such fun if you were on it & we could meet you!:)

Thanks betty!
All I know I'm doing is the Statendam up til next June, I have no idea what ship or company - if any - I'll do after that!
For now I'm just enjoying driving my own car... the small things like that you miss when you're away so long!

Did you ever get your lost luggage?
When do you leave for the Statendam.

I got my luggage back 2 weeks later - the bag was totally destroyed, but luckily all my instruments (yes, they were all in there!) were ok. Good packing on my part.
I join the stat in Vancouver at the end of August.
As for the HalCats - I've posted previously (search under my screenname it should pop up) asking what passengers think of the new arrangement... I'm being a bit cagey with my opinions because I'm a) pretty sure that Seattle reads these boards, and b) not wanting any recriminations against me for anything I post here...
... yet... ;)
