The 6 pack of an import beer for $15.50 is now $19.00. Just an FYI
Out of curiosity, how much is a beer from the bar? Is it all draft, or do they have bottles you could buy to drink in the room later?

I don`t think they have any draught. The bottles in the bars are, I think, $3.75 for domestic, and from $4 for imports.....jean

While we were onboard the Ryndam, the room steward came in and changed the pages of the pricing for beverages. Although I can't quote you exact prices it seemed that there was a greater than 8$ per bottle increase, if not more. Thank goodness we don't drink too much, although we did make our contribution to HAL with bottles of red wine purchased at dinner.

Stillfrantic I called ship services and a very nice rep told me to wait and saveon tax and set up charges because we were going to place a 200.00 order. I quess when we get to our room I will run up to the sea view bar and get a bucket or however they give me DH beers. I am only going to pre-order gin & tonic ahead.....but reading this board it looks like they don't bring it until we are out to sea. When did the pricing go up? Well I quess my DH and your DH will have to order some room service after the ship gets underway.

Just curious....AS HAL is Dutch, wouldn't that make American Beers the imported beer?:) and for the beer prices, could the weakness of the Dollar to the Euro effect the cost or is the shareholders demanding more profit?...Dennis

I'll take my chances saying this, and I'm not encouraging it, but they wonder why people "smuggle"???? Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous, but I guess people pay it.

Considering the value of a 7 night cruise compared with 10 - 15 years ago, it is just common knowledge that cruise lines have to make up revenue elsewhere. My family of 4 (2 adults/2 children) are paying just under $2000...
Take away the port charges, government taxes, and the t/a cut, HAL walks away with just over $170.00 per day! That leaves me with lodging, 3 squares daily, entertainment, etc, etc, etc.
No-tell Motel off the Interstate $ 85.00
Breakfast for 4 at Krispy Kreme $ 10.00
Lunch at McDonalds $ 20.00
Dinner at Ponderosa $ 50.00
Midnight snack at 7-11 $ 10.00
Six-Pack of Beer $ 3.00
Total $178.00
I guess that six pack - domestic $18.00 - imported $19.00 (including gratuitity) dosen't sound so bad!

You are correct that they have to make up their revenue somewhere, but I though $15.50 was extortion for a 6 pack of beer, and then they up it more! Additionally, another thread mentions that a liter of Bombay (I think) went up 33% in 3 months--in April it was $29 and now it's $39. Considering HAL gets it duty-free, this is a HUGE profit. But they'll raise prices for until pax stop buying, which will be never. Next, wait until they start charging $6 for an espresso. There's no difference between that and the liqour, just personal beverage preference. The liqour probably costs HAL less than the coffee, anyway, so imagine how much $ they could make there!

I guess we can rationalize just about anything HAL decides to do these days since it's so gosh darn cheap to get on their ships...so why doesn't HAL go the whole ten yards?
"HAL proudly presents a la carte cruising, build your own cruise experience."
We have a cruise booked with HAL this coming December. Took our 1st cruise with HAL in 93 and have been loyal customers since then but this time around we will be taking a close look....and if things have changed to much I think we will be voting with our feet.
