Hi all
Another quick question. Whenever we go on vacation we bring along our own snacks, juice boxes, sodas, etc to keep in our hotel room. Is this permitted on the ship? We were planning on stopping somewhere between the airport and the port.
Thanks!

Yes it is allowed but I can't imagine why you would want to. There is always food available when you should want it on the ship, including room service if you want it. I was so full from eating 3 times a day (or more) and never ate any snacks in the room. And I am a regular eater (if you get my drift!) I would recommend that you not buy much or you will just have to take it back off the ship!

I agree with the above poster you can do this but no reason to.
You get free pop on deck 9 and all the snacks around the ship are awesome.
You do have a cooler in your frig where you can put fruit or other snack you may want to keep cold. If you want a can apop you can buy them at Preludes and keep in your cooler but why bother when you can go to deck 9 24/7 and get pop or milk, coffee, tea, hot cooca, iced tea etc...
Room service foods are free(accept gratuity), snacks are set out late night near the clubs too, plus around the pool areas some of the food venues are open until midnight, goofys galley has wraps and fruit and sometimes pastas most of the day too and ice cream on deck 9 just behind goofys galley, there is so much food you cant eat it all!!
If you want to purchase candy, can apops, chips, cookies and such you can do so at the stores and preludes on board, so no need to have to pack and carry them around. Yes they do cost a little more and not a huge selection but the items are good.
But to answer your question you can drive a couple miles past the port to Cocoa Beach where there are stores and restaurants on the same highway you drive in on, just keep going for 3 or 4 miles and you will see plenty of places you can shop for snacks if you want.

I was told once, only bring the snack foods you cannot live without. Fortunately, I do not have any. That being said - next time I might bring a box of cheez-its or something just to munch. I am one of those people who cannot bring myself to pay alot for a bag of something on the ship when I can get french fries free. French Fries taste good :D but bad on hips  and room service can take FOREVER (ok 30 minutes, but it seems like FOREVER especially when I need a snack.)

We are trying to introduce our grandkids to cruising and tipping. How much should a child tip for room service?

I believe they should tip the same as an adult, after all they are getting the same service as the adult is.
We usually do $2 if it is just a little amount of food, but if we order a lot and the waiter really has a lot to carry we add more to it.
We usually bring some ones and keep in the drawer just for room service to make it easier.

Don't forget you can order Mickey ice cream bars and BIG chocolate chips cookies from room service too! We just tipped $1 when we did that.
We did stop at the Super Wal-Mart on our way to port. I'm not sure what exit it was, others might know. But, you can see it from the highway. It helped having pre-packaged snacks for our excursions and got the kids their favorite candy for the movie theatre. That was a big hit! Also, what we didn't use/eat we could take off with us because it was pre-packaged. You are not suppose to take off fruit/food from the ship for your excursions. So, it was nice having crackers and granola bars for the kids ready-to-eat. There is a lot of food onboard. But, it was nice having some "comfort foods" for the kids too, especially for DS1 (now 2). Just our experience. :) - Jennifer

thanks for the heads up about Walmart. I bring Pepsi on board since Disney only carries Coke. last time I was on the cruise, I had so many different people come up to me and say wow where did you get that pepsi? lol. :)

I would suggest bringing ziplock bags. ;) They won't let you take fruit off the ship but you can take other things off. It was nice to have a few juice boxes but I wouldn't bring more than you need for shore excursions. Room service does take a loooooooooong time sometimes but you can "pre-order" or time order if you want. For example we asked for fruit and a cheese plate every day early in the afternoon. We had a chance then that the kids would have a decent snack.

You may take things on board but be advised that when stopping at many ports, taking food off the ship is strictly forbidden due to the regulations of the port you are visiting. This especially applies to agricultural items. You also will probably not be able to take anything left over in the way of agricultural products once you are finished with your cruise. Each port is different so you may have to check.
