While planning a cruise, how many times have you deposited, and (before penalties)changed your mind? For this year, I booked a Celebrity 10-day on the Summit and cancelled for an 12- day on the Oceania Regatta, then switched to a 10 day on the Volendam. UGH! I am done now- the Volendam it is!! Since it is off season in Nov. I was able to get a great rate on a S cabin. This is a first for us. Hope I made the right decision. I loved both the Maasdam and the Veendam, but did not care for the Zuiderdam. It sounds like the Volendam will be a good fit for us.Of course, I still have a small window of time to change my mind.......

Volendam is a great ship. Layout is similar to the Maasdam and Veendam, but a tad bit bigger. I think you will enjoy her and a suite, you can't go wrong. Enjoy.

Perrys,

I haven't been on many cruises (numbers 3 and 4 coming up), but once I've booked I've never switched ships. However, on my October cruise I've switched rooms twice (inside M to inside K to outside E) and on my March cruise I'm probably going to be switching from AA verandah to SS verandah.

Although we have had 4 cruises with number 5 and 6 and possibly 7 coming (we are thinking of either 10 day Ryndam or 7 day Oosterdam Oct 8th 2005) We also change cabins frequently. We almost never keep the same cabin we originally book. We keep talking ourselves into a more expensive cabin. For our next cruise we went from an Inside I cat. to a S Cat.Talk about going for the BIG BUMP:eek:

perrys, I do not think there is anything wrong with changing your mind. You need to be happy with your choice. Cruising can be a big investment and with more of your vacations dollars to be paid way in advance. Sounds like you made a good change;)

Out of all of our cruises, we only changed our mind one time and changed our booking from one HAL ship to another when we heard some of our friends would be aboard the other ship.

One time we already had our documents and HAL wanted to "buy back" out Suite. We settled on an "unrefusable offer" and sold our Suite back to them and rebooked a back-to-back on "MY" Maasdam. :)

Other than those two occasions, I cannot recall ever cancelling or changing any other cruise.

I don't blame you at all for changing your bookings. If at some point the plans do not please you, why pay all that money and use up your vacation time for a cruise that is not exactly what you want.

I wonder if anyone's ever gone to a lower category cabin? Doesn't seem like that would be much fun.:(

I've never changed my mind on a cabin. I take upgrades, but have never chosen to go with a different one. So far as cruises, only cancelled one booking. That was because of work considerations, and was way in advance ... not a last-minute thing.

Why did you change your mind about Summit??? Celebrity is a great company and Summit is one of their best ships!

I have had to cancel a couple of trips because of timing, health issues, or the state of the world today, but generally we are commited to the Cabin we book when we book it! We have hand-selected the cabins we have coming up (except on 11/05 Veendam, where we got the Last suite!) . For every one I cancel, I probably have sailed 4 others.

:)

We have cancelled cruises on several occassions.

The first time we had booked a Princess cruise. Then we learned that they were switching to Personal Choice dining, having captain sightings instead of a regular captain's welcome party, butler service was gone and a couple of other things. So we switched to HAL and have been with them ever since.

We did switch HAL ships a couple of times when we were notified about itinerary changes.

The only time we have switched cabins before the cruise was when we had a chance to be upgraded from a suite to a penthouse suite.
