I am looking to do a Wilderness Sea Kayaking Adventure in Sitka on my upcoming cruise. Has anyone done one of the kayaking excursions in Alaska? I'm assuming it isn't too dangerous or strenuous. My mom and I are both young and fairly athletic. I'm looking forward to it, but I think she is a little worried!

i did a kayaking excursion through HAL last year on the Zaandam in Ketchikan. It's defintely not dangerous. But I will tell you that for our kayaking excursion they did give us the option at the last minute of backing out and getting a full refund if we wanted. The kayaking required that we kayak across this rather wide channel... wide enough for cruise ships to pass so it was pretty wide. The problem is that the current was running swiftly that day and the current was running in the opposite direction of where we needed to kayak too. The guides and HAL reps told us that the group that went out ahead of us was having some trouble. There is a chase boat that follows you and can help those in need and in this case they had to rescue this man and woman who couldn't make it across the channel. We were all kind of scared since no one in our kayaking group of about 20 had ever kayaked before. 2 people opted to back out but the rest stayed. It was tough going for a bit, but we all had the time of our lives and were glad that we didn't back out!

It is so much fun to kayak in Alaska and the scenery can't be beat! just go and enjoy yourselves. if you and your mom are fairly athletic, you must be like me and my dad. we ended up having no trouble except for some sore arms the next day. but we took away great memories!

That sounds totally fun and exciting to me, but I probably won't share that story with her!!!! :)
