Just wondering what you all thinkg about tipping in regards to an infant. Friends of ours that will be going with us will have a 5 month old when we go...do they need to tip for 3 people (including the baby) or just the 2 of them? Thanks!

They should tip based on 3 people, because that's what they are. Tipping is blind to age - if it's got a pulse, you need to tip! Chances are, that steward will have extra work to do because of the baby.

I agree about the room steward, but how about the dining room staff...the baby will still be breast fed and not eating any food..he/she probably will not even be able to sit in a high chair yet. What do you think?

I'd still tip including the baby. Chances are, the baby will be preventing someone else from being seated at that table (even without a high chair, will the stroller be there?).

Based on literature from several different cruise lines(Disney was not one of them) as far as recommended amounts for tipping - Tip 1/2 of adult tip for child and nothing for children under 2. Of course, we have never followed this. We always tip based on what the individual did for us. We always give the room steward extra and the waiter extra, but not the same amount as an adult tip.

Jen,
We took our boy on Disney when he was about 4 months old. We tipped the room steward as 3 people, i.e. full amount (actually we gave him a little extra because he was very good and had more work than for 3 adults since he set up & broke down the crib daily AND had to deal with stinky diapers, although it was thru use of a diaper genie that they provided).
In the dining room, we did not tip as if he was a full person because he was essentially no work for anyone in the dining room. He was still on just formula & could not sit up in a high chair (so one of us was holding him). We did give them an extra few $$ but did not tip the full amount.
We went again when he was about 10 months. On this trip again tipped the room steward full amount. We tipped the dining room staff a full amount, since he was eating real food & in a high chair (and making a mess).
My thought is to tip for a youngster based on whether the child requires work. If I was to bring him now (15 months) I'd probably tip extra since he's at the stage where he lets you know he's done eating by throwing food on the floor.
Any tips for breaking that habit????????????

I don't know if I would tip the full amount that is requested, since it is a baby. I would tip, something maybe half of an adult.

I disagree with everyone, with an infant you have to bring there food.you have to feed them, there is no reason to tip anyone for anything.

As an ex-waitress, please tip for the baby. Unless he/she sleeps through the full meal in your lap, small children inevitably are a bit messy and require attention - even if the food they bring in is from the outside. I have two children of my own and feel that rather than tipping half, I should tip double usually based on their presence - and they are relatively neat and quiet! Of course, I am a 'when in doubt, tip' person.
