Booking the November cruise...alone! Young 30's/female. Just wondering if anyone is going to be on this cruise solo. Someone told me Holland America cruises get mostly older cruises. (No offense- I love older people and my parents are 70...In fact I tend to hang out with a lot of older people on vacations in their 60's, etc.) But I'm just wondering if there will be some others in 30's age range cruising solo as well.
Maybe some parents/grandparents can bring their nice, single son along on this cruise to meet me. Ha!
Thanks and Happy Cruising. :)

Hi,
You might try posting on the roll call for your cruise or check out the solo cruising threads (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=373)
I found them both useful when I took my first solo cruise last fall. :)

I am 46 and usually cruise alone. Although HAL is my favorite line I don't see a lot of younger people (men or women) travelling alone. I think most people are afraid to travel alone. I have a lot of people tell me they admire me for going by myself. For me, it is my preference. I'm sure you will love it but don't be surprised if you don't find a lot of passangers travelling solo.

Thank you all for the great info. I posted my question on that other board.
And I agree- actually prefer traveling alone! :)

I like traveling alone too ... however, I find that you don't see a whole lot of singles and solos on the shorter cruises. Most people travel in couples or with family/friends groups. Where you will find a lot of singles and solos are on the longer voyages. In fact, the longer the voyage, the more singles and solos you will generally find. However, that said ... yes, I have to say, most of those singles and solos will be pretty up there in age.

As someone else noted on this thread, unfortunately, very few people have the courage to travel by themselves. They will either wait until they can find someone to join them, or they will simply not take the trip. Those folks don't know what they are missing. Cruising solo is one of the best definitions of freedom that I know.

Blue skies ...

Alexa,
What date in November? Our family is booked on the Nov. 13 cruise, and my sister is traveling solo. Although not 30ish, we're young 40-50s.
Happy cruising.

Good for you!! Traveling solo means you get to see, do, experience, taste just what you want. I didn't start traveling alone until I was forced to but, in hindsight, that was one of the most fortunate things about my life. I have found that there are always people to talk to, even though they may not be in your age group or particular set of circumstances. Most are charming and welcoming so enjoy yourself and have a super cruise.
