Does Holland America offer basic snorkeling lessons in the ship's pool as some other lines do?

Not that I am aware. The HAL beach at HMC on a calm day would be the perfect place to give it a try though. I am sure the attendants at the watersport rental hut would explain it to you! The beach gives an very gradual drop off and is crystal clean with a white sand bottom. A perfect place to learn to snorkel!

RDMOREU-
You are entirely welcome! Many of the beaches in the Bahamas/Carribean are very snorkeler friendly. I also highly recommend the beaches on St. John's were their great sand, crystal clear water and generally gentle surf. It is an excursion option generally from St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands!.
