Thanks to all the wonderful posters on this board, I have managed to obtain a shipboard credit on our November Caribbean cruise.
I emailed CVC last Sunday who replied saying that HAL said that, as we were getting such a good price for the cruise, we were not entitled to the credit. Fair enough, I thought. However, today I rang HAL. After all, I thought, they could only say "no" and nothing ventured, nothing gained. They informed me that we were entitled to $25 per person. Great stuff.
So I emailed CVC again who replied promptly to say that in fact HAL had given us a credit of $50 per person! Wonderful.

That's great! Congratulations. Never hurts to ask; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Congratulations.

Sue's Mom, Congrats. on your shipboard credit! I'm also curious about "CVC" .
Also, because I've heard how difficult it is to book HAL from the UK, would you mind sharing your expertise as to whether you book with an agency or on the Net? Do you pay in UK pounds or US dollars? I'm told many UK agencies don't do HAL reservations and if they do the information they have is quite limited.

Cruise Value Centre is correct.
The first time we sailed with HAL the cruise was part of a package arranged by a British tour operator and included a motorcoach tour of the Canadian Rockies followed by an Inside Passage cruise.
UK travel agents can arrange a HAL cruise with the UK arm of HAL, which includes the airfare and an overnight stay on the night of arrival, boarding the ship the following day. HAL produce a brochure for the UK.
But I like to do some research, collect all the info together and then work out which is the best deal.
Our latest cruise was paid for with a credit card and therefore the conversion from $ to £ was taken care of by the credit card company - good exchange rate too! Return flights were booked through a UK travel agent (cheaper than I could get on the net) and the 2 night stay in Ft LL was booked through Priceline, again with the help of this board.
All this came to a LOT less than a package with HAL.
