We just returned from Carnival Liberty's 8-night Eastern itinerary.
In Tortola, we booked a 1/2 day sail with Captain Nibbs on a 38-foot catamaran. It was DH and I, my 63-year old mother, and our blended family of 5 children, ages 13, 11, 6, 6 and 2.
When we got off the ship, Captain Nibbs was supposed to be waiting for us, but there was no sign of him. After 1/2 an hour, I went back to the ship for his phone number, which I had in my cabin. A cab driver called him for us and he apologized because the boat that the marina gave him had mechanical trouble and he wouldn't be able to take us out. I was really disappointed. Another cab driver tried to find us another tour, but then Captain Nibbs called the original cab driver's phone back and spoke with me. He said he thought he could get another boat and that he would meet us in 20 minutes. We were waiting in the heat and my mother and stepdaughter were getting really whiny and cranky. I was tempted to call the whole thing off. Captain Nibbs showed up and took us on a short walk to the marina. Then, we reached the boat, where he introduced us to Bentley, who would be our captain. Bentley's 17-year old son was along, too. Now I was really skeptical, since I thought Captain Nibbs would be taking us out. I almost called it off. I'm glad I didnt.....
We had the best time of our lives on that 4 hour tour. First, we sailed out to Norman Island. We could have gone to the baths, but we thought it would be too difficult with our 2-year old. It was sooooooo relaxing on the ride out there. Then we had about 1 hour to snorkel around some caves on Norman Island. We saw some beautiful fish. Bentley personally took my mother snorkeling for her first time. As the last of our party was getting back on the boat, my 6-year old said "I see a crocodile". Well, we never believe him, but this time he actually saw something. It was a 3-foot long barricuda. It turns out there was another barricuda under the boat. After watching the barricudas, we went to a small deserted beach on Norman Island for a few minutes so the kids could run around. There, we saw a stingray. Bentley let my 13-year old stepson and my mother take turns driving on the way back. We saw a sea turtle on the ride back.
Despite the rough start, I would not hesitate to recommend Island Fun Tours to anyone.
