While I enjoy great cuisine, I have always also enjoyed returning to a Celebrity ship mid-afternoon from a port for tea, a hot dog, hamburger, or pizza at the poolside Grill. Celebrity always had great hot dogs and pizza. Granted, the pizza wouldn't measure up to a brick oven restaurant, but Celebrity had fresh, tasty pizza. Supposedly they have special machines to handle the mass quantity in demand.

So it came to pass that on the 8/4 cruise, while the hot dog was fine, the pizza was tasteless and remiscent of the frozen kind. What a letdown. I did notice that there was never a long line at the Grill, so perhaps the Celebrity Pizza machine is not a necessity. But it was very disappointing.

Harry,

perhaps with a smaller ship they do not have room for a pizza oven and as suggested they thaw, heat and serve. I suspect that they have some space limitations and will see first hand in 30 days!

Wow! In all the many comments I've read here on Cruise Critic regarding the food in the dining room on "Journey", I think yours may be the only one calling it "awful"! Nevertheless, we are still excitedly looking forward to our opportunity to sample the food onboard in October. Sorry you didn't enjoy it--we certainly plan to!

Except for a dismal NY strip steak and an ill conceived dessert sampler, every meal in the Discoveries dining room left me with a warm afterglow. The meal, table settings, wait staff and random table partners were a pleasure.

We loved every single morsel we had aboard the Journey - including the pizza!
However - of special note are both the chocolate souffle and the Chilean Sea Bass in the Aqualina specialty restaurant. AND - lobster night (Thursday) in Discoveries - where the dessert 'sampler' is presented. YUM!
