Was wondering if anyone has heard of any new updates because of Costa Maya being down for the next six months. I sail in 3 weeks 9-29-2007 from Mobile, AL on Holiday and I can't get any answers or information from my PVP or any of the boards. It's like no one is talking. We were to sail to Costa Maya and Cozumel. My reservation still say's this 3 weeks away from departure and 3 weeks since Costa Maya was hit by hurricane Felix. Any news at all would be welcome.

There is no chance you will be calling on Costa Maya...to be honest from the pics I saw, I think 6 months is very optimistic. The upside is that it will be gorgeous when all the work is done.

I do hope this port of call is up and running by fall of next year. I also saw the PIC's, awful, just awful. I am hoping my PVP will provide some info soon as to where in the heck we will be going instead.

I would guess that Belize or Roatan might be replacements.

Both are fully functional now and barring any unforeseen circumstances they are probably the safe bets.

I would love to see Belize. That would be great if we could. The Fantasy has been going to Progresso and Cozumel. I have a feeling we (Holiday)may end up there or it might be Calica. I just want to know for sure before the sail date. Can't book shore excursions if it's to close to sail date.

We leave on The Legend on Sun Sept 16th and they stillhave not been able to tell us what port will be replacing Costa Maya. I talked to Carnival directly Friday afternoon :( He did tell me the last few weeks have been replaced with Roatan, so I am betting that is where we will head...At this point, anything is fine with me. I can't wait :)

We are also sailing on the Legend on the 16th. I posted a message here a couple of weeks ago and received a response from Carnival. They said we would be going to Rotan Bay Island instead of Costa Maya. When you pull up the Carnival website the shore excursions for Costa Maya have been removed, even though it says we still are going there

We are sailing on the Legend on the 23rd. My PVP emailed me and saied we were substituting Progresso for Costa Maya. I was surprised since the the CC hurricane updates had posted the Legend going to Roatan the week after Hurricane Dean. I guess this vacation will be a surprise- I am happy just to be crusin".

You should come over to the Roll Call board! There's quite a few CCers who will be on that sailing with you, including me. :-) Can't wait, no matter where we end up going!

Take a look at the images that John Heald posted on his blog:

One look is enough to understand why Costa Maya is out of the question until 2009...

God bless those poor folks....

Carnival ships Holiday and Fantasy now have Progesso Mexico which has replaced Costa Maya till April of 2009. I got this straight from Carnival via e-mail because of my up coming cruise on 9-29. Oh well, somewhere new to explore.:)

Hi, we're updating our Costa Maya story about cruise itinerary changes almost every day (or at least have done this week as most of the cruise lines made their longer-term replacement announcements). Go here: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=2198 (http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=2198). And if your ship is not listed, tell me! editor@cruisecritic.com (editor@cruisecritic.com). We'll go find out.

Best,

Port damage affects cruise lines

Sep. 11, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) --
MIAMI (AP) - Carnival Corp. (NYSE:CCL) has no plans to return to the Mexican cruise port at Majahual until at least the spring of 2009 due to extensive damage from Hurricane Dean, the company said Tuesday.

Carnival, the world's largest cruise operator, is modifying itineraries away from the port at Majahual, known as Puerto Costa Maya, through its reservation period, which is open until spring 2009, company spokeswoman Jennifer de la Cruz said.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE:RCL) said Tuesday it is adjusting its itineraries to avoid Costa Maya through April. Royal Caribbean, second to Carnival in the cruise industry, is rerouting six ships that normally would stop at Costa Maya, company spokesman Raul Duany said.

Puerto Costa Maya suffered extensive damage when Dean swept over the Yucatan as a top-scale Category 5 hurricane on Aug. 21, demolishing houses, crumpling steel girders and washing away parts of concrete dock at the port.

Both Miami-based companies said they hoped to return to Costa Maya, but it would be up to port authorities there to determine when ships can return.

Costa Maya has become a popular destination since it began operating in 2001 to provide tourist access to historic Mayan sites. But it is not considered as critical to the industry as other Caribbean ports such as Cozumel or Grand Cayman.

Costa Maya can accommodate up to three cruise ships at once and is one of only six ports in the western Caribbean to receive over 1 million passengers per year, according to the port's Web site.

NCL Spirit out of New Orleans is substituting Roatan for Costa Maya November - December (at least and maybe longer).

This is great for DH & I. We love Roatan.

I was planning to go on a cruise on RCCL Voyager of the Seas out of Galveston in Jan or Feb 2008

That cruise was going to Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya, and Progresso. I am disappointed to find out that they are replacing Costa Maya with longers stays at Roatan and Progresso.

I was hoping they would add Belize but they didn't

I will have to reconsider if I want to go on that cruise now.

They didn't even change their basic price.
