I enjoyed reading your very thorough and informative review.

In my opinion, Deilmann river cruising cannot be beat! We are giving Amadeus a try next year. Itinerary was the only reason we did not re-book with Deilmann.

Thank you so much for this comprehensive and informative review. It helped my planning enormously! We are sailing next week (29 Sept) on Katerina von Bora from Prague to Potsdam. Looks like we will have a great time on Deilmann! We have done one river cruise before (otherwise we are strictly RSSC people!) on Viking and I think Deilmann is more up-market than Viking, although we enjoyed that cruise very much.

Hambagahle,

Thanks, have a wonderful cruise!!

I just received the 2008 river cruise brochure (German version). During our cruise a photographer came aboard and took some photos for the new brochure. All passengers were asked to sign a paper. He took a lot of photos. Only one showing passengers is published in the new brochure, a family at the reception desk with a little girl taking some candy :D ! So pick up a brochure (donīt know if itīs in the English version too) and have a look at us.

I will certainly do that!
Here's a question though -- Deilmann says it is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol on board...how strictly did you find that to be? Usually when Germans say something is verboten, they mean it, but you referred to having bottles of wine in your cabin. ???

Hambagahle,

Hhmm, I didnīt find that restriction in the German FAQs. Surely you canīt bring any wine for dinner. But it shouldnīt be any problem to have some in your cabin. Glasses and a cork screw were available (I had no wine in my cabin). I only had wine for dinner and the selection was really excellent (and worth to give it a try! You definitely wonīt find any better wines ashore in a super market). Wines came mainly from small local wineries.

They donīt check bags when you reboard the ship. I brought on some water for in cabin use and shore tours.

Thanks Steamboats -
I thought we would ask the bar to have large bottles of water taken to our cabin, and follow your advice about the rest!

I will write a review of the Katerina von Bora when I get home and you can see how it went!!
