I believe it is a 3 hours bus ride from Seward to Anchorage.
If one buys a transfer from HAL what time do you leave the ship and what is the earliest you should book air out of Anchorage?
If one does not buy the transfer from HAL are there other options such as bus companys that do the transfer? If that is the case what is the time you could expect to disembark?
Of course the best thing would be to stay a day or so in Alaska after the cruise but that might not be possible.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi! First off, I would recommend you consider taking a later vs. early train or bus from Seward and a late plane from Anchorage. Seward is in Ressurection Bay which is part of the Kenai Fjords and a day trip before your trip to Anchorage is well worth it!! Folks on our Ryndam cruise were able to book the 6 hour boat tour and then transfer to the Airport together via HAL. There is also a train that departs a couple of times a day from Seward to Anchorage. The early train departed about 7am and I understand the later train left at 6pm from Seward. Hope this helps!

localady - I am considering the Kenai Fjords boat trip you are speaking of. Do you know if that tour cost INCLUDES the transfer, or if the transfer must be purchased separately along with the tour? Thanks.

Hi Marie-
The tour includes the cost of the transfer when you purchase it onboard unless you have already purchased the transfer from HAL, then they deduct that. I really recommend it, it's a great end to the trip!

Thanks so much. This is great news. I have NOT purchased a transfer because the on-line only agency I used for this trip, does not provide that service. I was going to do it once onboard. I will book this tour as soon as I get onboard. My flight doesn't leave until 8:50pm, and this tour is available for those with flights 8pm or after, so I am thrilled. Does this mean I don't have to be up and at 'em for the early bus, do you know?

:)
Plan to be up early on day of disembarkation in Seward, whether you take HAL's bus, train, or a tour. Breakfast is very early for everyone. HAL and RCI train (they share) leave first - usually between 6:30 and 7 AM. Then the buses go next. If you take one of the tours, they also leave early.
It takes abour 3 1/2 - 4 hours to get to the Anchorage airport.

You still have to be up early!!! Even on a back to back I think the Lido stopped serving at 8 or 8:30 in the morning on disembarkation morning!

Oh, darn :). I am an early riser anyway. It's just nice not to HAVE to be up.

We took the land portion of our Alaskan trip in June, 2004. We booked the bus from Seaward to Anchorage through HAL. As I remember, we left the Statendam about 12:15 pm. I know we were able to attend a movie the morning of disembarkation and eat lunch in the Lido before we left the ship.
As we were spending the night in Anchorage before continuing on the train to Fairbanks the next day, there was really no need for us to leave any earlier.
