I’m hooked on cruising and I’m hooked on HAL.
We took advantage of the on board booking option while on our cruise. I’m ready to go again. But I can’t decide on which one. I wanna do ‘em all. :D
I would really like to do the 2008 Journey to the New World, 14 days from Civitavecchia to New York. This is a repositioning cruise I think. Anyway I sorta promised my children I would take them with me on my next cruise. Ok, so I really did promise them, but it ain’t gonna be that one.
My question, does anyone know if this is cruise is offered every year or is this possibly a 1 time only event? And has anyone taken it before?
Thanks for your help.

In 2008, there are several west bound, translatlantic repositioning cruises from Europe:
Eurodam/Aug
Noordam/Oct
Zuiderdam/Oct
Rotterdam/Oct
Prinsendam/Oct
The number of days and intineraries vary.
In July, the Maasdam is sailing R/T from Boston and this can be booked as independent segments.
Cruising is an increasingly affordable way to see some of Europe and some of the repositioning cruises are tremendous values. They are available every years although the ships and intineraries will vary. Go for it.

"The Journey to the new World" cruise is traditionaly a Rome to Ft. Lauderdale cruise in the fall. We had booked it this year on the Westerdam, but unfortunately had to cancel due to health problems.
We've done 3 other transatlantics including a June 2004 35 day roundtrip Ny on the Rotterdam which was replaced in 2005 by the Maasdam with slightly altered itineraries.
Our 2004 left from NY, visited NewFoundland, Iceland, the west coast of Norway (Tromso, Honningsvag, Trondheim and Stavanger), then to Hamburg, Amsterdam and back across via Isle of Man, Hebrides, Dublin, the Faroes, Akureyri Iceland, and 2 other ports in NF.
On the eastbound Rotterdam in 2003 from Boston to Rotterdam, we stopped at St. Pierre/Miquelon, Greenland, Iceland, Belfast and Cobh in Ireland, Oban Scotland, Dover England and Le Havre France. We had several ports missed due to bad weather in the North Sea and English Channel. (Guernsey, Harwich and Plymouth.
These are phenomenal cruises with lots of sea days. We love them.

HB: I really thought I wanted the Noordam cruise but then I looked over the Zuiderdam. Decisions, decisions.
GN: I hope your health problems are improved and you can start planing again for the next World Cruise.
Thank you both your insights.

If you're doing the transatlantic, Tammy be sure to pack your green apples and crackers. Not exactly sure how rough a crossing can get. ;)

Hey Alison
How's it going.
LOL.............. Don't need to pack 'em cuz I know the ship offers them. That one night we were rocking and rolling, I didn't get sick, but my sis did. Our wonderful dinner staff brought them for her.
But I did found out if I change my patch w/in about 30 hours, I don't get sea sick. I'll just make sure I bring enough of them.

I can see it now...Tammy and her extra luggage to carry all of her patches. LOL I would love to do a transatlantic some year and was kind of moving towards the northern isles trip out of Denmark, finishing in NYC. Something to look forward to for my retirement years I guess.
