Please no flames, reasons not to smoke, how to be considerate, lectures on the evils of smoking or just plain you hate smoke. I would appreciate it. I am asking this for a friend and my intent is not to start another debate on smoking. :)

I already know you cannot smoke in the dining rooms, and show lounges.

These questions are for the Noordam only, no other Hal ships.

Can you smoke in the Ocean Bar, and Crows Nest ?
If yes, can you smoke at the bar ?

Are there any smoking restrictions in the casino ?

Can you smoke in the Lido pool area ?

Thanks

I don't know about the Ocean Bar. You may smoke at the bar and the tables behind the bar in the CN.

There was no smoking in the Casino, in May.

There is no smoking in the LIDO area.

When we were on Noordam, smoking was permitted at the bar in both Ocean Bar and CrowsNest. There was no smoking in the casino the whole 11 days we were aboard.

There is smoking at the sports bar, outdoors on 1 side of the Lido pool where table tops are marked
I'm not sure when you cruised last, but HAL recently banned smoking in that nice table area by the Lido pool.

I had a great time at the Ocean Bar. You can smoke at the bar and a few tables close to the bar, none by the mini stage and dance floor. If you go, tell Ceaser, Vensus, Glenn & Leo Tammie said hi and miss them all.
I didn't spend much time in the Crows nest and never smoked while there.

Are there any smoking restrictions in the casino ?
I walked through the casino a few times, never stopped and played. I did see smoking only signs, so I assume you could smoke in there.

Can you smoke in the Lido pool area ?
No, but out by the adults only pool by the bar, you can smoke.

Thanks

Enjoy your cruise, wish I was with you.

I suspect anley meant the aft Lido pool, as the word "outside" was in the reply. It can be confusing as both pools are on the Lido Deck.

I actually thought she was referring to the indoor Lido pool, and the area near the bar that has tables.

At least it's clear now! And that's what matters. :)

In case I confused anyone, it's at the Sea View Pool by the Sea View Bar at the opposite end of the covered Lido Pool that smoking is allowed :D .

magictam, rest easy. Not your fault. The confusion was caused by a reply that has since been removed.

Is the casino smoke-free on ALL HAL ships? Some nights or every night?

No...it varies from ship to ship. Sometimes it varies week to week, ship to ship.

The casina was completely non-smoking on the Noordam, in May. The adjacent bar was a designated smoking area, I think.

A woman ( organizer for a group) was circulating a petition to have smoking reinstated as this action had been taken without prior notice. She claimed it was the hotel manager, not headquarters, who had deemed the casino completely non-smoking and that once he left, smoking would return to the casino.

We left the ship with the Hotel Manager and his wife. I do not know if the casino reverted to smoking, after that.

Those who sailed subsequent, in Jun-Sept. would know better. What ever happened as the Alaskan season progressed may or may not be the case, once the Noordam is repositioned.

There was smoking permitted in Maasdam's casino this summer. I seem to recall there may have been some smoke free nights but definitely not the whole cruise. There were so few smokers aboard 3 of the 4 weeks we were there that it was hardly an issue.

I think it possible that when smoking is permitted or not may depend upon how many people on a given cruise complain in either direction. If a large group of non-smokers request as little smoking as possible be permitted, it is possible that is what happens??? Don't know but think it possible.

Maybe the Penthouse Suite guests get to decide :). Just another little perk at the top.

I think all passengers should know, upon booking, where smoking is and is not alllowed. This willy-nilly stuff is goofy.

Hammybee - I agree with you 100%. :) This way, everyone would know, up front, how they will be accommodated and can have the freedom of choice in continuing the reservation or amending it.

We happen to smoke; others do not. While we are as courteous as possible to our neighbors, we have been, from time-to-time, surrounded by discourteous neighbors (read my information on the NCL Dawn and the neighbor who climbed onto our balcony and were smoking substances other than cigarettes which stopped us from using our balcony).

There truly is no way to please everyone aboard a vessel; however, with knowledge of the rules - including smoking - you can prevent many hard feelings ahead of time.
