When I get quotes on the HAL website they automatically come up in CAD. Now that the CAD is at par with USD I want to pay in USD as the conversion rate is way out of line. Is there some way of changing the default to USD?

I have no idea. Perhaps you might consider using a U.S. Travel Agent.

Our TA will book for us in USD (just did a Celebrity USD booking this morning). On the Celebrity website you can choose a country and get the quote in the local currency. I've been put in charge to get info on an Alaskan cruise for 5 couples. Been going through the brochure/website and there are so many options!!! I'd like to be able to get the pricing myself so that I can give the others a list of different cruises and prices. I don't want to spend all my TA's time getting sample pricings....was hoping just to be able to do it myself on the website and then go to the TA when we had made our decision.

You would have a cookie on your computer so the HAL website will know you are from Canada. If you delete the cookie it will ask you again where you are from. You would have to pick someplace in the US. If you are trying to find the airfare you will be hooped. I hope I answered your question. I think this still works. I haven't tried it lately.

The only way I've found to get US pricing these days is to call HAL to make the booking - or at least start the wheels turning. The trick is to give a US departure point e,g, New York, Ft. Lauderdale - if asked about air, you're using airline points and all you need is the cruise cost. With that info you can check against the Canadian pricing and go from there.

Of course you can actually make a booking - you have about a week to make the deposit payment. Pass it over to you favorite TA if the price is right.

Lorekauf is right. Clear your cookies and when you go to the HAL website choose USA as your country. I have done it. When you also want to check for cruiseair just put in your real city departure (ie Canadian city) and it will give you all the pricing in US$. Good luck.

Any good Canadian travel agent should be able to quote you in the US dollar fare PROVIDING that you are not purchasing cruise air that departs from a Canadian airport or not purchasing any cruise air.

Thanks Annemarie. That worked, I can get US pricing. There's approximately $600 difference between CAD and USD. For that amount, it's worth looking after our own air or driving to Buffalo to fly. Thanks all for your advice.

Moose Tracks you don't have to fly from Buffalo unless you want to. Use a TA that will buy your cruise in USD and you can still buy your own air from Toronto or wherever in Canada.
