I've read menus for 7-day cruises and am wondering how they usually handle longer cruises. Do the menus repeat after a week or is each night different? Thanks for your help! Dolores

I did a repositioning cruise of 21 days in April/May and the menu was different on all 21 days. I found the food to be better, more varied on the longer cruise, much better than the shorter 7 day ones.....jean

On the eastbound leg of our transatlantic, there was only one repeat menu in 17 days, however on the westbound leg, we had many repeats of the first 17 days. We did have more options as there were 4 formal nights. So much of what people report missing from 7-day menus appeared on our cruise, plus an extraordinary amount of broccoli, many "hodge-podges" and multiple potato varieties, including potato gnocci served as an entree.

Hi GN - Do you know where and what ship you are cruising on next summer?

We found the same thing on our 17 day South American cruise last December. Different entrees every night of the 17 day cruise, with regional dishes throughout the cruise. It was really a wonderful menu! I have to think that sometimes the best meals come from allowing the chef to work from his own menu rather than a set menu. As an example, we usually love the Pinnacle's food, but on the night of the Vintner's menu, which was crafted by the Chef, was unbelieveably delicious!!!!

Our 7/10 17-day transatlantic had different menus each day. I don't recall any repeated items other than salads and some ice cream items in the dessert selections. I do know that the vegetarian entrees (one each day) never repeated. The "regular" entrees might have had some semi-repeats, but I don't think the whole entree was the same. I don't recall any soup repeats and know none of the cold ones repeated.
Grannynurse: The potato gnocci is a vegetarian entree and is usually on the menu at least once. We don't care for it, so we do remember.
Also someone on the B2B before us mentioned some "not seen of HAL before" entrees such as meatloaf and fish & chips. Both made an appearance on our 17 day cruise.

Hi!
We are on the Zaandam for the 11 day New Year's cruise (12/28-1/8), and are looking at some B2B's on either, the Prinsendam or the Westerdam in Europe next summer. The Westerdam has a Barcelona to Rome, and Rome to Ft. Lauderdale in October 2005, I think it's 25 days total. The prinsendam has an Irish Sea and Baltic B2B that we're also considering. It'll depend on whether or not I retire in May 2005.
The one we REALLY want is the 62 day Amsterdam Pacific Rim in October 2005, but it's almost sold out now and we won't have enough time to make a decision until winter, and then it'll be gone for good.
Thanks for asking, and have a wonderful cruise this month!

Dolores, although the menus are not usually repeated intact, the foods are definitely repeated on longer cruises. On the 6/6-7/10 cruise there were multiple opportunities to have Filet Mignon or Prime Rib for dinner. And meatloaf, too. Steak was available in one form or another just about every night.
Remember that you don't have to order off the main menu. Sometimes there is a delicious appetizer that can be served as an entre. The stewards will let an adult have the children's menu without a wink (just the usual smile). With a day's notice Filet can be had instead of sirloin.
Ask, and (unless it's way out in left field) it shall be granted to you.
