Hi there
My DH and DD and I are cruising on the Zuiderdam 8/28/04 - we have booked our own flights and are going down the day before.- we just found out that my husband will have to fly down the next day due to new work commitments.
Will HAL allow us to check in separately?
Thanx

Why not just meet him at the pier and wait to check in. You will have the cruise documents, I am not sure they would let him check in without them.

The problem with that is that he may not get there until later like 3 pm - We would like to get on board earlier to book things etc.
Thanx

We often have gotten our docs in the same leatherette folder, but with a separate tkt booklet for each of us. Come to think of it I believe our tkt packets have been individual in all but one instance. If your TA requested it you each could have your own tkt and could board separately.

:)
Both of our names have always been on the same cruise ticket.
If all 3 names are on the same ticket, it will be a problem. Even if your daughter has her own cruise ticket and your husband and you are listed on the other ticket, still a problem.
Maybe your TA can get HAL to send a separate cruise ticket for him.
Otherwise you all will have to meet outside the terminal.

Our documents always have both our names on one ticket.
He could have problems even getting past the Sheriff's security entering Port Everglades without a cruise ticket. Sometimes we have to show our passports when we go by in the taxi and sometimes we have to show both our passports as well as our cruise ticket.
Depends......no way to predict whether they want to see the tickets on any given day.
IF your documents have not yet been issued (printed).......have your TA call HAL , explain the circumstance and request a separate ticket for each of you.

On our last cruise when HAL had done our airline tiks, they came as a page in our docs booklet. I guess with e- tiks nowadays, there weren`t separate airline tiks......jean

I had forgotten about getting through security in Ft Lauderdale. Even before you get to the cruise terminal, Ft Lauderdale has security. Many times when we have taken a cab from our hotel to the pier we have had to show our passports and cruise documents. Even the cab driver had to show his photo ID.
Since your husband is flying in the day of the cruise, you all will have to meet either at the airport or the hotel before you go down to the pier.

Possibly our TA requests separate tkts for us just in case we need them, but I know we always have had 2 separate tkts except one time. So I know for sure HAL will do it that way if your TA asks. It should totally solve your problem. :)

I have asked my TA to request separate documents so that there isn't an issue
otherwise we may rent a car and just pick him up from the airport and all go together -does anyone know if there is a car rental drop off at the cruise terminal?
Thanx

I know you said your husband has work commitments, but arriving at 3 PM is really cutting it close if there is a flight delay. Hope it works out for you.

I would advise against this. You will loose too much time returning the car. All the car rental returns are around the airport. A taxi is the fastest way.
What might help is if you take all the luggage that has to be checked, so your husband is not delayed waiting on luggage.
3:00 is cutting it close. I hope he has a straight through flight. Is there any way he could take a very late flight and arrive the night before?

I agree that he is cutting it very, very close. In this era of air delays for so many reasons, he is taking a chance IMO
If he has no choice; well, he has no choice. If there is any alternative, he may wish to reconsider.

I saw where NY was mentioned, but I am not sure if that is where he is flying from. I hope it is a straight through flight also and he does not have to go through Atlanta. We get major delays down here because of thunder storms.
I would opt for the cab also.

On our June cruise we were traveling with my sister and family. Our husbands dropped us off at the pier thinking that would be easiest with all our luggage. They went to drop our borrowed car off and my brother in laws rent a car off. This took forever. They would not let us through the lines without our husbands so we were just put to the side to wait for them. The rent a car return proved to be the biggest problem. Taxi's to the pier were scarce because there are shuttles from the car place. Shuttles were few and far between and they wouldn't leave unless they were full. When we arrived by car, we did have to show our cruise documents to security but when our husbands came back by shuttle they did not have to show them. (good thing because we never thought of that and they didn't have them). When they did arrive at the pier, a very nice HAL person (who had seen us waiting for so long) let us go directly to the suite line (we didn't have a suite) which no line at all instead of making us stand in the very long regular line. Of course our wait was our own fault not HALs so we really appreciated that.
