I know these ships have identical layouts and that one is younger and that they have different itineraries. Are there any other differences?

The biggest difference is the decor. Zuirderdam has extremely vivid carpeting where the Oosterdam is more toned down. I thought the cabin decor was exactly the same. Over all I liked the Oostedam better, but both were great ships:D

Zuiderdam does Caribbean itineraries year-round.
Oosterdam does the Caribbean in winter, Alaska in summer and Mexico/Panama canal in between.

I saw the thread title and had an immediate flash of a prize fight... Give me $25 on the big Z!

The big difference is the decor. I've sailed on both of them and prefer the Oosterdam. The Oosterdam also seems to be very popular with people that have sailed on her. She has one of the highest rebooking percentages of any of the HAL ships. I believe she places third behind Rotterdam and Maasdam.

Definitely agree with LaffNVegas & JazzSea. We've sailed on both and found the decor on the "Z" to be too garish (IOHO), especially the carpeting. The "O" was a little less so. As of now, our favorite is the Volendam(intimate atmosphere, more interaction with the crew). We'll have our first Rotterdam experience (14 days) in Dec. and, based on opinions posted on this board, very much looking forward to it.
