I am cruising out of San Diego this December for the first time. Is a 12:45 pm flight time too early? How risky would it be to try and fly out that early? Anyone have any experience cruising out of San Diego? Thanks for any responses!

Are you asking about the return flight after your return from the cruise? I think I would give myself a little more time, say a 2:00 p.m. outbound flight, although the distance from the pier to the airport is less than 5 miles. This will give you more time in the morning on the ship to enjoy breakfast, clear the ship and customs, and collect your bags, etc., then go through the reverse process of airport security to board the flight.
We were on the Statendam last Feb/Mar, but were spending the winter months in San Diego in our RV and arrival and departure times only meant getting in the limo back to the RV resort.

Dave-We have flown out of San Diego twice in the last year after cruises-once on HAL and once on Residensea, and were at the airport by 9 am each time. Do not book a transfer as it is a $7 cab fare and and less than a 10 minute ride. You will have hours to spare with a 12:45 departure.

I have flown out from San Diego and like garydm, we had no problems making a flight around that time frame.

We've had an 11:30 flight out of San Diego and made it with no problem. Just be sure to take a taxi vs. HAL transportation.

I have a 1 PM flight out in Dec and am not worried at all about it. Last time (Dec 02) we were at the airport before 10 am.
You should be fine. Go for it.

:)
As your ship departs and arrives in San Diego, you will the airport. It is that close to the waterway where the ship comes in.
We have gone in and out of San Diego several times. Only once, in October, did the ship arrive at the port late - and that was due to heavy fog.

You can see the airport from the cruise terminal, esp. on the ship. It is very close. A 12:45pm departure should give you plenty of time to get there.
We paid $6.00 for a van from the terminal to the airport (April, 2003).
