I am interesed in snorkeling but can't choose which Island. I was wondering if anyone had done this in Grenada from the ships tours or at all.

The best snorkeling in Grenada is at Molinere Point.

I would rate it good-to-very-good and only a few miles from the dock, a cheap taxi ride. When you get there, a 12 minute water-taxi ride will take you to the best spot.

An alternate, if you don't want to do the water taxi is Grand Anse Beach just a mile south of the dock. Rating: Good.

We usually SCUBA in Carriacou, but when we don't have the time to SCUBA, this is the spot.

Bring your own stuff as there's not much there.

Have a great time! :)

Try Magazine Beach. We did it and loved it. Spent the day and had the beach to ourselves. Magazine is reportedly the best beach for snorkeling without taking a water taxi. Snorkeling was okay. Lounge chairs provided by Aquarium Beach Club. Lunch was good and reasonably priced. Vendor pests were rare. Two ships in port and 10 couples, tops at the noon rush hour. The rest of the time, just one other couple from Italy.

We took a taxi, round trip for two, $45.00 with tip. Will do it again if we return.

Have pics if you have an email to send them to.

Barbados,

Do you remember what the taxi ride cost you?

Do you remember what the water taxi ride cost?

We will be stopping at Grenada on the Sun Princess 10/23 cruise.

This will be our first time to Grenada. We are looking forward to it.

"Do you remember what the taxi ride cost you?

--------------------------------------

As I remember the taxi ride to Molinere Point was US$12-15.

The water taxi was US$4-6/pp

It's been a year-and-a-half, so things may be a little higher.

Molinere Reef is worth the trouble, believe me.

I leave you with a picture of St. George's

Thanks Barbados,

This sounds like the place we will go. We always take our own gear. We free dive all over the Caribbean and South Pacific.

It is from all the great advice on the cc boards that we have found some of the best places to go.

Do they have taxi stands at the port where the ship docks?

Did you have to make arrangements with taxi driver to come back to pick you up?

If we tell the Taxi driver we want to go to Molinere Point will he drop us off at the area to take the water taxi?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I know where we are going and how it all works.

Thanks.

Barbados,

My DH would like to know did you dive off the beach once you reached Molinere Point? Or did you go out on a dive boat? Was there a specific spot you went to once at Molinere Point?

We have not been able to find much information on this, so would really appreciate your input.

Please tell me about your dive there? How far out was the reef, type of coral, type of fish? Would love to hear about it.

Yes

Many times they wait, but mostly they return at a specified time and you pay them then

If we tell the Taxi driver we want to go to Molinere Point will he drop us off at the area to take the water taxi?

Yes, He’ll know, but ask beforehand in case he’s new

Sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I know where we are going and how it all works.

No problem, my pleasure

We used a water taxi. You can dive off the beach but it’s a long swim.

Many of the taxi divers are also divers and they know where to go and who to see, I would ask them a few questions before you get in the cab.

We usually dive the Buccaneer in that area, a 42’ sloop that sits in 65’ of water.

Please tell me about your dive there? How far out was the reef, type of coral, type of fish? Would love to hear about it.

The beginning of the reef is out about 500 yards. Depending on your luck, visibility is 100’ or more. On a poor day, it’s 30’. Lots of soft coral, sea fans and gorgonians. Fish range from spotted morays, Spanish Hogfish, big French Angels, Sergeant majors, turtles and rock Beauties.

You may also see barracuda, rays, grouper and octopi.

Using a dive operator is very convenient and they really know the great spots at any given time.

We use Dive Grenada. Find it Here http://www.divegrenada.com. They’ll take you out and watch over you if you don’t want to do a beach dive. They have a snorkel trip for US$24. You can't go wrong with that!

I hope I answered most of the questions that had. You’ll love Grenada! :)
