I am taking the Prinsendam Kiel Canal and Baltic Treasure cruise on Aug. 7, 2008. There is a flight leaving Amsterdam airport at 1:15 p.m. Is anyone familiar with this cruise and will I have enough time to make this flight? Any suggestions for a hotel in Amsterdam? I am unable to walk long distances, so I prefer to be in the heart of the shopping/restaurant district. I don't have to have the fanciest hotel, but of course I want it to be clean! But fancy might be nice, too.

If you are talking about a flight home on THU 21 AUG 08, the day Prinsendam returns to Amsterdam from that 14-day beauty, then yes, you will have enough time. Be aware that the airlines recommend a 3-hour cushion before international flights so you need to be at Schiphol airport no later than 10:30. You will make that as long as you let the Front Office on Prinsendam know your plans. The ride from port to airport in Amsterdam usually takes about 45-50 minutes.

You should have NO problem making that flight. I was on the Prinsendam this past July and wasn't able to find a flight with a connection to LAX that left after 11AM, which made me very nervous. So, I booked a hotel at the airport and figured I'd just spend the day in Amsterdam and take the early flight the next day. When it came time to disembark, I decided that I really didn't want to do that so I went directly to the airport, hoping I could possibly get on the earlier flight as a stand-by. I did... plus got a confirmed flight from Dulles to LAX, and got home a day earlier.

Greetings from Amsterdam. Disembarkation starts at around 08.00am so time enough to catch your 1.15 pm flight. Taxi ride around 20-30 minutes. Beware of the taxirate as some of the drivers may take you for a ride.
Hotels: Victoria Park Plaza:) is opposite the Central Station so is NH.Hotel Barbizon Palace:) (www.nh.hotels.com).Both are nice and refurbished recently. Canal trips highly recommended and leave almost in front of these hotels. Work is in progress in centre of town as a new underground system is being build . Also hotel Krasnapolsky:) (same webiste www.nh.hotels.com) has an excellent location at Dam square in Centre of the town and about 5 minutes away from the other hotels mentioned.
Have a great trip. We did it on 2005.
