i am given to understand that canadians arriving by plane in chile are charged a $132 "reciprocity fee" for a visa.

does anyone know if this also applies to arrivals by ship (as i assume it does) and does anyone know the process involved for payment etc?

we will be travelling on INFINITY in november and are curious

In prior years, the fee was only paid by those arriving by air into Santiago. Therefore, cruise passengers arriving in Valparaiso would not have to pay this fee. The policy might have changed, so recommend calling the chilean embassy in your country and verifying this.

For US citizens arriving by plane: The reciprocity fee of $100 dollars to be paid in cash (U.S. dollars) or credit card. The one-time charge is good for the life of your passport.

Yes, as a Canadian you do need to pay US$132 per person even arriving by cruiseship. I have check with Chilean embassy in Canada. However, if you Canadian Passort is not expired until 2012, you do not need to pay next time when you return to Chile until 2012.

No, you pay to Chilean Customs when you go through the Chilean Immigration. The lady I was on the phone from Chilean office in Vancouver told me it's better to pay cash to save time. I will have US$264 cash ready for two of us. Just make sure you have cash ready! Have a good trip!!:)
