After my first visit to Nassau when we took a tour to the Atlantis (definitely not worth the money), we have decided to stay on the ship this time. The only thing good I can say about Nassau is that Pierce Brosnan was making a movie on the pier and I saw him:D . And it didn't cost me a penny.

If they open early enough, walk around to the City Hall. A place called Conch Fritters is across the street. That is their signature dish, also. To die for! Also, there's a pirate museum that's entertaining.

And we thought it definitely was worth the money, although that was almost 10 years ago. Still, we tried her sister sub in Maui 2 years ago and found it just as enjoyable.

Was it the sub itself or the view that you didn't care for?

Nassau isn't one of our favorite destinations but how can any cruise stop be terrible. We actually enjoyed Atlantis, not the best thing we have ever done but is also a fun thing to say you saw when you get home. There are a couple choices about Atlantis, you can either pay the $$ and take the complete tour and or use their private beach or just walk there and look around the hotel, shops and casino. It is a beautiful complex. ;)

Nassau .. Not our favorite spot. We found the down town rather dirty and shopping wasn't that interesting. We did enjoy taking a cab over to the atlantis..paying the $25. and visiting what the call "the dig". It is a huge aquarium, that is quite beautiful and has a lot of very interesting tropical fish.

If you take the ship tour of this, be aware they take the ferry over and there is quite a lot of walking to get to the atlantis. I'd avoid the "group" thing and grab a cab..I think it was less than $10. I know doing this on our own was a lot less than what the cruise line was charging and we had a lot more time at the resort.

On another trip, we rented a room for the day. this gave us access to all pools, the dig site, beach etc. We had a delightful day at the resort. surf at the resort is rough, but the pools, lagoon, etc. were very nice. we were docked from 9 am until 11 PM..so we had plenty of time to spend at the resort. we returned in time for our late seating dinner.

Even if you just take a cab and walk around the resort, it's worth a hour or two of "free" entertainment..the place is huge!

Frankly, when I saw our upcoming cruise was stopping there from early morning until around noon I was disappointed they turned an "at sea" day into stopping at this port. By the time you get off the ship you need to turn around and be back on board by 11:30..

What ever you decide, have a great cruise!

Was it the sub itself or the view that you didn't care for?As you might gather by the posts just above this one, they weren't talking about the submarine. Rather, the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. It's a fascinating place. "The Dig" is really a huge aquarium and we found it to be enjoyable. I agree that a cab is the best way to get over there.

Staying on the ship is good if you have been to Nassau before.

However, one of the big thrills is walking the gauntlet of women who insist on braiding your hair. Never mind that you are a guy who has 1 or 2 strands left, no problem mon, we can still do it!

Actually, if you did want to shop, most of the normal island stores are represented but one stands out for us. John Bull is really kind of nice. Nice clerks and oodles of things from watches to jewelry to china to crystal. We actually enjoy it there. We have bought many items, mostly watches. The choices are enormous and easy to compare items. They do dicker sometimes but not on everything.

At the Straw Market, if you dare to stop you WILL be bombarded and you need to be aware all the time. Or you certainly will be taking home a coconut head or straw bag.

You can gamble at Paradise Island or Cable Beach. Either one requires a cab.

Yep, gathered that. The sub was better! :)

Was it the sub itself or the view that you didn't care for?I was talking about the casino and resort, not the sub:D !!! The aquarium there was fabulous and we enjoyed seeing the resort. I should have been more clear. I meant the "tour" wasn't worth the money. Get there on your own is a better plan. They called it a "Historic Harbour Tour & Atlantis Casino" and there was nothing historic about it. We got on this rattrap of a ferry boat with about 200 other people, a woman talked into a microphone and you couldn't hear a word she said. Horrendous. I'm going to get a job writing up these tours for these people. But if they told the truth, people wouldn't go on them half the time:eek: .

Peggy Sue: We'll see you on the Oosterdam in November!!:) When we saw we're only in Nassau until noon we decided to call it a "sea day" in our minds and be done with it.:D
