Hi All....My original MM guarantee was upgraded by HAL to a category K, TA called today saying HAL was ofering a move from the K to a CHH for $ 49.00 PP. I interpert this as an obstructed view on the lower promenade deck. Other than gaining a window, would you consider this a good move for the mid-ship K? Many Thanks for your thoughts as this will be our first time on HAL.......................Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I would take that in a minute! I was on the Zaandam in an outside cabin on the Lower Promenade deck. I loved that deck. It was almost like having a giant balcony :D . The other thing is that, even though the view is obstructed, you will still get natural light in your room, which is a bonus in my opinion.

Have a great cruise!

We had a partially obstructed DD on the lower promenade of the Statendam and enjoyed the easy access to the outside deck.

Check to see if the HH is a guarantee or a specific cabin. If it is a guarantee, you could be upgraded to higher category but not necessarily a better cabin for you! HH is on the lower promenade deck, but you could get upgraded to an H or G on the lower A deck at the front of the ship with port holes. If you don't mind that then it is probably worth it. We have been on the Ryndam in a K cabin center of the ship - good location. We were on the Volendam in June in a G category at the front with port holes -it was fine. We are going to Hawaii on the Zaandam with an HH guarantee, so we will see if we get an upgrade. For the K and the G we chose our cabin, but this time we will see if the upgrade fairy works.

cheers

Thanks for your replys. I have just hung up the phone with my TA and we have taken a move to an outside category DA for the $ 49.00 per person.

Hope the DW likes like it:) ................Kevin

You'll love a DA - all you have to do is pop up one flight on the stairs, elevator or escalator and you are on the lower promenade. You get a larger cabin than those on the lower promenade and you get the light without having to worry about someone peeking in your window. We have twice had cabins near the escalator and really liked them.

The lower promemade deck is one of HAL's best kept secrets, you walk out of your room a few feet and have access to the largest balcony on the ship. Your balcony will also come with really nice and comfortable teak wood deck chairs. I say for the extra $49 go for it!!!:D

Happy Sailing!:) :)
We love Veendam.............had a hard time getting to "like" Zaandam because we like Veendam so much, I guess. We finally got used to Z and enjoyed her.
Upgrades can be good and can NOT be good; we've always been lucky until our latest..................

I'm glad you loved the Veendam as we are going Dec. 9th out of Tampa. I loved the Volendam and wondered how another ship would compare.
Tell us about the upgrade that didn't work out in case we should be offered one....We have FF, outside, but no number assigned yet.

Last one, this month................had a cabin from HELL on Zaandam............1829.
In San Diego we planned to sleep late as we were staying on for the next cruise. At 4 a.m. they started rolling luggage off in the big carts right OVER our heads; wheels on metal................forever..........
Then, passengers disembarking walked with their rollies over our heads.
In the first tender port, someone was UNDER our bed with a sledge hammer (I swear) bashing and bashing metal.............early, early in the morning.............for about a half hour..............guess they were trying to open the big metal door because the stairs for going to the tender were right under our window..........
After that, people were lined up down our hall so thickly and we couldn't get out of our cabin to go to breakfast................everyone trying to get off for tours was so sure we were just cutting into the line (which wasn't supposed to exist, anyhow.............they were supposed to wait until called.)
It was really the NOISE above and below us that was horrible.
There was an A/C problem causing many of us to get no sleep for two full nights as well; that isn't something that would exist on every cruise, however but the disembarking and tendering would be on every cruise, I guess.
