When we do our cruise next year August 10 2008- Shimmer
I have booked us the Mercure Ultimo on the 9th before we sail and the Ibis hotel (harbourview room) for 3 nights after our cruise.

We are also going to the Rocky Horror Show after the cruise.
I got good deals through Accor Advantage plus.

I realise that Darling Harbour is not the Rocks area but is it central to shops and activity?

We have 3 stops on our 9 night cruise- Noumea, Vila and Mystery Island?
We have never cruised before and have splurged on a balcony cabin.

It seems so far away- we were to do a seven night Brisbane- Cairns cruise end of March but P&O canned it.
We are now going to Magnetic Island, Townsville, Cairns and Port Douglas for 3 weeks instead and then in June I am going with my mum to Cairns and P. Douglas for 9 nights as well -
So big Year planned in 2008 for me

OYSTERFIEND..what a handle I love the oysters too, kilpatrick or mornay.

Anyway..Mercure at Ultimo & IBIS Darling Harbour, good hotels, small rooms, but no matter. Very good spot, Darling Harbour is 10 mins walk from Chinatown and Paddys Market, both well worth a visit. Darling Harbour has heaps of restaurants, shops, plus Sydney Aquarium and Maritime Museum, all great.

Get on the Mono rail at Darling Harbour.

At the hotel ask for a Sydney CBD Map and hunt out the registered clubs, i.e. NSW Leagies Club, Bowling Club, Catholic Club, City of Sydney RSL, all serve cheap beer and good value tucker. Avoid the tourist restaurants at Darling Harbour, although try at least one for the experience.
Chinatown has great restaurants and good value. Sydney Ferries also run from Darling Harbour around to Circular Quay and onto Manly.

Cheers..Les:eek: (did you order those big seas for us folk on Regal Princess, bottom of NZ on 29/30 Sept.?)

Thanks for that- we got good pr-pay- no refund deals through Accor and the small room is less a concern than location.
We will check oput Chinatown for sure as we love our FOOD!
