We have a friend who has no partner:( to share a room with. My wife and I are going to make our reservation for the Nov. 29, 2008 cruise on the Eurodam. He would like to go with us. Can our friend make the same reservation as a single and then change it later if he can find a traveling partner?

Yes, I did this for my upcoming cruise since I don't have a partner and didn't know who I could talk into cruising with me :p . I was onboard the Zaandam at the time of booking, so I put the $100 onboard deposit on the cruise, booked a guarantee room, and the invoice showed the full (double) room rate with taxes, etc. for one person only. This is what the Onboard Cruise Consultant suggested.
Then, just before final payment, I added my roommate to the booking. The only change to the booking was adding taxes, etc. for the second person. Just one thing to remember... if a second person will be added, it must be done before final payment to avoid additional administrative charges, which would be similar to changing the name of a passenger after final booking.

Yes, I have done it twice. Once when I didn't know who my traveling partner would be, and once when I wanted to book to lock down the cabin but my traveling companion couldn't afford to book yet. It's easy to do, and the Deposit rate is the same ... you don't deposit twice as much just because you're a single (though, if you end up sailing solo your final payment will have the single supplement included).
Indeed, I'm currently booked aboard the Eurodam for her 2nd 10-day cruise as a solo and am hoping that Christopher will change his mind about flying home after the Maiden and Inaugural cruises and will book on for the 2nd 10-day itinerary with me. If not, and someone else wants to ... let me know.

Correct, Bonnie. I've had to change the second passenger identity once ... it was annoying, but Christopher wasn't going to be able to cruise but another clergy-friend could do it and wanted to go, so ... it was worth it to be able to get him aboard. And he paid the fee, so it was no skin off my nose.

I also last year book as a single and later found someone to come
with me, there was no problem. as long as they are making money from you, you can change as often as you want.

I have done this numerous times, and its never a problem before the final payment date.
