Just spoke with someone who is presently aboard the Noordam (in Barbados). They had a surprise health inspection on Wednesday and scored 100%!!!
Think this is great news considering they experienced a few days of Code Red on the last cruise.
CONGRATUATIONS TO THE CAPTAIN, HM, AND CREW!!

100%? Wow! :) Good going, Noordam crew, staff, officers, everybody!
Liz, do you happen to know what goverment authority did the inspection? I presume it was the Barbados authority? Do they use the same standards the US does? Who knows, could even be tougher ones!

On Wednesday the Noordam was at St. Thomas.
Hence, it was a CDC inspection.

Not to rain on the Noordam parade........
One of the long time posters with decades of shipboard experience, recently shared with one of the boards that there is no correlation between inspection scores and the norovirus. He went on to say that the smaller, high end, ships usually score lower on inspections and rarely, if ever, have a norovirus outbreak. Conversely, the larger, mass marketed ships tend to do well on inspections and yet norovirus breakouts are relatively common on all cruise lines.
So what's the difference? Passengers carry the virus onboard. The more passengers a ships carries, the greater the likelihood some passengers are boarding with the virus. Some board knowing they are or have been recently ill and do not disclose. Probably, most board and do not realize they have it, yet. And around we go.
My hat is off to the crew of the Noordam for scoring so well on their recent inspection. If only all passengers did as well.......

It's true that the overcall excellent condition and cleanliness of the ship is not always an indicator of presence of Noro Like Viruses. But there are so many other illnesses we could be exposed to but for the high maintenance and sanitary conditions....salmonella, e-coli, Legionnaires etc etc

I'm amazed that after Rev posted the fleet's most current Inspection scores no one commented on the overall excellence achieved by the whole fleet. Obviously, HAL really means it when we hear 'the clean fleet'. We all see the stewards vacuuming, and polishing and washing.... Obviously, CDC thinks they keep clean ships as well.
Congratulations to ALL the crews of all the HAL ships and seeing as Noordam has the newest (and highest) score....HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the fabulous Noordam!

I've been known to toddle on back to my cabin at 2:00 AM a time or two (or a lot ;) . It's amazing how many people are out cleaning, polishing, and vacuuming at that hour.
The best one I ever saw---and this was daytime---was someone washing the ceiling outside the Ocean Bar. Who would think to wash their ceiling?

If it moves, they greet it.
If it doesn't, they clean it.

I am often "out and about" late at night/early in the morning. Between 2 - 4 am the cleaning staff is out in full force. It's amazing how MUCH gets done during the night-time hours. There's a whole shift of the housekeeping staff that works while we sleep to clean, polish, repair, paint, etc.
Many of them are surprised to see me. I smile, nod, and go on about my walk. But it must be rare that they get to see "us."
