Hi All,

How far is the San Diego airport to the pier? Is it easy to get a cab? While, I'm at it...are there any liquor stores on the way? :p I'd like to get some wine to bring aboard the ship.

Thanks for any input.

Ten minutes, fifteen tops - cabs all over the place, it's an airport;)

Don't know if there are any liquor stoes between airport and pier as they are so close to each other.

But once you are on the ship you can walk to Ralphs - it is a bit of a walk though.

THE AIRPORT IS A "STONES THROW AWAY" - APPROX 10 MINUTES. YOU CAN WALK FROM THE DOCK A FEW BLOCKS TO A LIQUOR STORE OR TWO.

In the downtown area there is Ralph's Grocery store, Cost Plus World Market, and our favorite The Wine Bank, all of which sell wine. We plan to buy at the Wine Bank prior to our sailing on 11/10.

This is true, but not "on the way" from the airport to the cruise ship dock.

Just so you are aware, the wine bank is one of my favorite liquor stores -- they sell an amazing selection of fine wines.

So going from the airport via cab -- you will be about 15 minutes to the wine bank -- and then you can have them wait for you while you shop -- there aren't a lot of cabs sitting around in downtown san diego....and then its about a 10 minute ride back to the terminal.

I don't think they open til about 10 am....they are great guys -- if you know what you like, maybe think about calling them in advance and having them box it up -- they even take credit cards over the phone -- then all you'd have to do is run in and sign and leave....

Have fun!

They sell wine at the wine bank? Geez, what a concept, those silly Californians!

There's also an Office Depot across the street - no wine but lots of computers, office furniture, pencils, erasers, paper clips, M&M;s, red vines and sticky notes if you need them!

Maybe I'm overly cautious but I would not leave all my luggage in an unattended taxi and go shop for wine. If you are a couple, I would suggest one of you wait in the taxi. Almost all the time, it would be fine but why take any risk. The driver could consider the contents of your bags might be far more valuable than the taxi fare he would be losing by taking off.

Okay.......if you think I'm paranoid, maybe you're right. :D

Some people even walked from the ship to the airport when we disembarked.
I would get onto the ship, leave all my "stuff"...........enjoy lunch and then walk to get the wine and relax a bit after a flight.
It's a pretty place.............have FUN!:)

Current taxi cost...................$12. to $15.
Don't ask ME why!!
There are shuttles all over the place for $5. per person; they are better able to handle lots of huge luggage anyhow.

You can also take the Metro bus from the airport to the pier....Line 992. The fare is $2.25 or if you are 60 or over, only $1.00.
There is a Rite Aid store at the NE corner of Kettner and Ash, 2 1/2 blocks from the ship. There you can purchase a number of nice wines, reasonably priced. It is at least 7-8 blocks to the Ralph's market, if I recall.
