Can some of our great readers help.
We booked on the Pacific Sun back in April for our cruise leaving on 5th January from Brisbane. We are travelling with friends and specifically requested and were given adjacent rooms (with room Nos). Well we discovered today when paying our account that this was no longer the case and we have not only been seperated but are on the completely on the other side of the ship!!!!!
We were told there is nothing they can now do and the lady tried to explain how it all works and told us that P&O actually intentionally double book!!!!! then they hope for cancellations!!!!!
Is this normal for P&O???
Is there anything we can do??
Thanks Paul

Paul,
Not aware of this being common practice about double booking on a specific room. Quite often an upgrade will move you to a higher category and that could be the cause of being seperated. Did you request "no upgrades". Did you book a specific rooms, or a category guarantee?

The same thing happened to us in May,Did you book through a travel agent? Travel agents dont always book separate couples on the same booking in rooms next door to each other because if they do then there is no chance of getting a free upgrade,I was really upset when I phoned P&O about this and when I re contacted my T/A she explained the free upgrade situation.(Which P&O cannot) She was right we did get an upgrade, both couple's,and the upgade way outweigh the inconvenience of being on separate sides of the ship,in fact it was better! breakfast together lunch together drinks at the pool together dinner together, shore trips together:eek: We were very glad to be on opposite sides in the end:D

When we booked our cruise, we requested specific cabins, right next to each other. It was noted that it was subject to change, though I think that the TA put no upgrade on the bookings.
I'm glad we didn't get 'upgraded', as we would have been upgraded to Empress Deck. Our tablemates were on Empress Deck and couldn't stand the noise of the Kitchen above them.

Hmmm ... this is food for thought!
We're booked into two four berth cabins (travelling with my sister and her family) for our Feb cruise - at the moment we're next to each other on Upper Deck and I don't mind the position of the cabins (about as far into the middle of the ship as we can get on E grade at this stage).
I think I'ld be happier to stay there!

Thanks for the replies, as usual you lot are great!!
We have not been upgraded, we have just been moved from one section of u deck to the other, when I jokingly said can we be upgraded, the lady said we couldn't be because we have requested to be near our friends!! Believe me it was a joke request as we are not "suite type" people and would probably feel uncomfortable!!
And by he way, we booked directly through P&O ie NO AGENT!!
I don't want it to turn out like War & Peace and we probably will be ok.
I just wondered if anyone knew any phone numbers etc I could have to sort it out.
At the moment we have no intention of canceling or having it ruin our trip, we WILL have a great time, it's just that we can't understand why they let you think you have booked a cabin only to be moved, our kids have been looking at the plans of the ship and trying to imagine themselves in their little cabin. It's just a case of bad management really.

Paul,
Is a pity. I hope they can do something for you.

It is common practise on some cruise lines to over book the cruise. I have never known this to happen with P&O before, although Carnival and Princess do do it in the states. (It is the same with airlines in the states!!)
They normally just put people on a wait list, not deliberately over book.
Hope it works out well for you.
It is also the same with airlines here. And yes, they DO deliberately overbook (the airlines that is).

We're on Upper Deck too LouLou :D We're more towards the back end though. I specifically requested our cabin as it looked like it was out of the way of all noisy areas ;) I'm guessing that if we had first request for this cabin then we'll get it. I hope so or there'll be a fight, especially after being messed around with this booking so much already!

You tell em Minxy:p We have requested a cabin for Tahiti, we have stated no upgrade, as we cant go any higher, and our chances of an outside or suite will be zilch:rolleyes:

I dont know why we cant see free cabins online and book a particular one like they do in america. They book a certain cabin the day they release them.
we mostly have to take potluck.
we booked two cabins at the same time with friends on the pacific sun and our cabins were about 15 cabins apart but on the same side and deck. We thought it was because we both wanted outside 4 berth cabins.
For the sapphire princess and sun princess i checked online and told the TA which cabins we wanted and booked them

when i booked my next holiday on the dawn next october i booked directly with p&o and they actually got me to look at the plan and pick the cabin that i wanted, dont know if this is the norm but was very impressed, although that cruise is 11 months away so will probably have a completely diff cabin by then anyway:confused:

We booked a disabled inside cabin on Sapphire Princess Auckland to Sydney last Feb. We booked it because OH is a double amputee & uses a wheelchair. Princess in their wisdom "upgraded" us to an ocean view room....but it wasn't disabled!! Couldn't even get the wheelchair through the door. The shop was sailing full & for several hours we thought we wouldn't be sailing at all. The Hotel manager finally contacted the occupants of our original cabin who were able-bodied & were happy to swap. But it was an awful way to start a cruise.

Hope you have better luck than us, we booked last april and went through the same procedure, even on our final invoice we had the cabin No that we had booked then. When they were completing the booking and with my credit card in my hand the cabin was totally different and we were told there was nothing they could do!!! All we wanted was to be in the next cabin to our friends.
We'll see what happens in January but It's all a bit unproffesional!!
It's a big deal for us as we have to travel from Perth to pick up the ship so we are a bit annoyed.
Since this debacle has happened we've decided to go Royal Carribean on our next cruise and have booked for december 2008.

We were on Empress Deck, inside, midships right under the kitchens, and yes there was noise, but I wouldn't have said it was excessive... Certainly didn't disturb our sleep - I think there was only one morning when the noise above might have woken me.
