Hello All:
Has anyone tried parasailing here? I'm terrified but want to try - is it worth it?
Any comments are highly appreciated...

DH went parasailing the first time we were at Half Moon Cay and really enjoyed it. Frankly, there isn't enough alcohol in the world that would get me up there, but that's just me. I opted for the stingray adventure which scared the heck out of DH, so to each his/her own!

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

It is definitely worth the expense.

Make sure you take your camera with you (have a wrist strap) so you can take pictures. The is an awesome contract between the reef and sand bottom.

Enjoy

I've parasailed 6 or 7 times, but not at HMC.

You definitely should try it...its actually really peaceful up there and I felt very safe. It wasn't like a rollercoaster ride at all and I never felt my the bottom fall out of my tummy or anything of the sort...just floating along -- the views are incredible!

I'm not interested in going on this trip but my two teens want to while at HMC....they've gone many times before and I'm being told by HAL that I have to go too because they aren't 18...ugh!

Hi everyone-
thank you for your kind replys...ok, series of stupid questions...
Do you get dunked in the water?
What if it's really windy-rough seas? Is it better to go earlier in the day or later?
How high do you go?
Have you heard of any mishaps?
Jim - how do you bring your camera? Aren't you holding on for dear life?

You are strapped into a harnace and cannot fall out. No one that has ever fallen out has not complained. ha ha ha

Your hands are totally free.

They do not do the dunking like they do in the ports. Probably due to liability insurance. Just tell them not to do it when they are strapping you in.

Enjoy the ride.

After Jumping out of an airplane in the army this is fun.....

Hi Jim:
Thank you for your service to our country and our freedom! Thank you as well for your comments - I think I'm going to do it --- I'm chicken but I love Half Moon Cay and can only imagine what it looks like from above - hopefully I will be able to open my eyes!

I've been dunked a little -- just my feet or my bottom, but I don't know about HMC....its all just playful and fun.

We did parasailing on the Disney private Island and the seas were rough (which they can be at any time of day or not at any time of day) --- you sit on the boat with other passengers for up to an hour before or after your ride - the ride is actually very short -- about 5-10 minutes.

It was so rough one time, that a few people were getting motion sickness - in fact my 10 year old got very sick the minute we got off the boat! We spent the rest of the day in our cabin sipping chicken broth with Mickey Mouse Pasta in it!

My experience is that you go up about 100 yards -- a football field.

Sometimes it shorter -- maybe 150 feet --- perhaps it depends on the wind, I don't know.

But I've never felt in jeapordy at all and I don't even like ferris wheels!

Also, your hands can be totally free -- so you can use a camera easily.

I think you'll really enjoy it.

Yes, I highly recommend the HMC parasailing. It did it to celebrate a VERY special birthday and yes I got dunked (just briefly and just my legs/butt) - kind of a birthday bumps thing :D prior to being reeled onto the back of the boat.l

The views are absolutely incredible and you will not believe the colours in the water and how far you can see to the other side of the island.

It was very high but I felt totally safe and took several photos (with my arms wrapped around the main lines, of course). I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

If I ever get the opportunity I'm game to try this, but I also have a couple of questions.
Do you wear shoes? If not, how does it feel on your feet when you land? Any danger of cuts/scrapes/injury to feet?
How does landing feel on arthritic knees/hips?
Do you wear a helmet? I'm concerned about staying upright when landing.

Can you tell I want to go up, but am a little concerned about coming down? :D

I've never worn shoes - always barefoot, but I've seen some wear water shoes.

You start off and land on the boat, and the landing area is cushy, so your feet won't get hurt at all. As far as pressure upon landing on your joints, I don't think its any different than walking down steps as far as impact goes.

You are tethered to a pully system and they guide you in gently for a very soft landing -- I've not even come close to falling or landing weird.

No helmets either --- and I feel absolutely safe while parasailing...its much more gentle and calming than one would expect -- like floating!

Thanks for the information. This may be the dealbreaker. :(

I have done it 2X's..The first time I went up with hubby just below me so I didn't have to look down (would have just seen the top of his head) it was great. No shoes-no helmet. The next time I wanted to try it on my own & I did fine as long as I DIDN't look straight down. Landing for me was fine both times...I've had lower back surgery & 2 knee surgeries (and a thorasic disc that is herniated) I was very nervous about landing too, but figured the way my body has been going downhill, I better do stuff like this soon b/f it is too late! I would do para sailing again-it really is awesome to look out at BEAUTIFUL Half Moon Cay! As far as having my hands free...I was holding on too tight to take a photo.
Now...Zip lining is something I would NOT do again!

Zip lining was SCARY! OH MY...I was told there was a place to practice to before we got to the real thing...my intention was to go for the practice place & turn around & wait for my group by the ocean. Well, as we were climbing the tree, I asked "this is the practice tree???" Thing is, they don't have a practice zip & I was told there was no turning back. AGGHH..it was SO scary! We had to climb WAY up in the trees then stand out on a tiny ledge (my shoes hung over) then JUMP! OH MY....After making to the other side of the tree I was SO happy-UNTIL they told me there were only 9 more jumps to go!
They guys loved it, but never again for me!
