I prefer room service set up on the verandah. Where do you have your breakfast when you cruise?

Now, this is a poll.
We always enjoy the Lido for our breakfast.
This March on the Zuiderdam, I have a suite, so we'll give breakfast a try on our verandah.

It just depends what we feel like doing on any particular morning. Some mornings, especially if the weather is perfect and/or it is a port day, we will have room service on the verandah. We like to eat on the verandah and watch the activity on the dock. Other mornings I will go to the Neptune and bring back a latte for myself and juice/small Danish for DH. Then we will go up to the Lido later in the morning for 'brunch', especially if it is a sea day. So I voted all our favorite options. :)
(I don't believe they are doing breakfast in the Pinnacle for suite pax any longer.)

Every morning on the Oosterdam we enjoyed continental breakfast in the Lido. I love their muffins--both blueberry & bran. After the 1st day they also started putting muesli on the continental food line--yum! And fresh sqeezed oj. Wish I could start everyday that way. Shari

It depends. On several Western Caribbean cruises we have been disappointed by winds and rough water and did not get to eat breakfast on the balcony. Many times we cannot eat outside because the wind is so cool in the Winter months. If we are in port we like to go early to the dining room or order room service. We almost never eat in the Lido for breakfast.

We usually had breakfast in the Neptune Lounge or the Pinnacle/Queen's Room/King's Room.
But on our last cruise on the Maasdam in May we were told that the Pinnacle/Queen's/King's would no longer be available to suite passengers.
So I guess we will either have breakfast in the Neptune Lounge or the main dining room.
Once in a while we eat on our verandah and a couple of times in the Lido.

We also mix it up. The DW loves the dining room. But we choose the Lido about half the time. We've also had breakfast on the veranda.

We always eat in the Lido buffet for breakfast. It's just so much more easier and quicker for us. We have our morning ritual, I get up early, shave, dress and go upstairs for coffee, leaving her the room and bath to herself.. She joins me and we eat, return to our room, gather our stuff and leave for most of the day.. Works for us.. Bombero

I'm with Carol....having breakfast on our veranda is the best!!!!
It's one of the reasons we enjoy a room with veranda sooo much.
On at sea days we will go to the main dining room.

On our last cruise (not HAL) I didn't like the lines and crowds in the Lido. I didn't enjoy having to get the food, get the drinks, look for a table, etc. I found it much more relaxing to go to the DR, which I thought had better food and be waited on. So I voted for the DR.
I've yet to have a balcony, but will have one in March. For that cruise I'm looking forward to sitting outside and having a light breakfast and some coffee.

It depends upon what's going on. Sea days I usually like breakfast in the main dining room or in the lido. On port days when we get off the ship early (i.e., before 10 am) I usually prefer to order room service.

We always have room service for b`fast. I am one of those people who cannot function if I don`t have my coffee as soon as I get up. We usually just have coffee, juice and pastries, then maybe stroll up to the lido around 10 and have more coffee and fresh sqeezed OJ......jean

Can you get the fresh squeezed OJ from room service on HAL? In Celebrity's CC class they deliver the fresh squeezed to your room. On HAL we have always eaten in the Lido for breakfast.

Judy-
I am not sure about that. I frankly have never requested that for breakfast, maybe I shall try on our 12/2 Rotterdam cruise. Gosh knows we have ordered things not on the standard breakfast menu and the staff has always worked hard to fulfill our requests!!!

I tend to go to the Lido for breakfast, mainly because it's the most flexible option in terms of timing, but also because I like the variety offered.
On my last cruise, I had breakfast in the DR twice, so that I could have Eggs Benedict.
A lot of it depends on if it's a sea or port day, and what activities I have planned.
I've never done room service, so I'm going to try that on my next cruise in December. I tend to travel by myself, so eating in the Lido or DR gives me the chance to eat with other people and meet some new faces.

I have asked for and received fresh squeezed OJ from room service. Just write "fresh squeezed" next to the Orange Juice line.
I also like peanut butter and grape jelly.... ( I know, I know). I request grape jelly and peanut butter with my English muffin. I have to write it in, also.
Even though there are only two of us in the cabin we request coffe for four. Neither of us can function without our coffe blast.
On sea days, weather permitting we will walk a mile outside. If it is nasty outside we walk a mile in the health club.

When we are cruising in the Caribbean, we always have breakfast on our veranda....except when we were in the Penthouse and then we loved eating at the beautiful dining room table.
We have our tray delivered but must admit we also make a trip to Neptune Lounge to add a few goodies to what we had delivered.

Have tried the dining room for breakfast, but generally prefer the Lido so we have more control over the amount of time the meal takes. We DO like the omelet station in the Lido. Have never tried room service because we don't ever know the night before what we'll feel like eating in the a.m. and when we might want it. (Like to be flexible :) )
For the first time since Statendam years ago we will have a balcony on the Westerdam Dec. 12th so might try breakfast on the balcony to start off one of our port days.

DW enjoys having breakfast by room service. If it is comfortable outside, then on the verandah, we eat it there. If not, then off the table in the room. We only wish that HAL had muesli on the room service menu and larger carafes of coffee!

Hi:) 95% of the time I eat breakfast in the dining room. The other 5% would be Lido.
May I ask about the Neptune Lounge? Is this an area on HAL ships designated "Only for SUITE Passengers"? Would I be allowed to at least take a peek and see what it looks like?

Roboat, the b`fast menu card that you hang on your door at night has a pretty comprehensive selection. You can get eggs, any style, omelets, bacon, sausage, ham etc along with a variety of cereals, yoghurt, breads, bagels, sweet rolls, juices, hot drinks etc. etc. You won`t go hungry, thats for sure!!...jean

I'm not an early riser, not at all sociable first thing in the am, and can't walk out the door without being properly showered and dressed so I couldn't imagine anything worse than having to go up to the Lido first thing in the am for a cuppa...
However, being awakened by a steward bringing in pots of hot tea and coffee, fresh fruit and croissants - how civilized! Much more satisfying than a wake-up call... I truly enjoyed sitting in my robe on the verandah having my nibblies and perusing the daily program.
Did wander down to the dining room for eggs benedict late one morning - which was a nice thing to do on a lazy at-sea day. Who knows how it'll work out in Alaska, but it definately won't be the Lido.

We use the daily routine of going up to the Lido to stretch our legs a little and get a little interaction with some of our favorite servers. Eating in the Lido also gives us the option of sampling a wider variety of offerings in quantities that match our whims each day.

It all depends upon what's happening, that day. Sea days, in the dining room, (with fresh squeezed OJ that we bring with us from the Lido), early shore excursions, room service, later shore excursions, in the Lido.

With an inside cabin, we like to be out as much as possible. We like to get breakfast in the Lido and eat outside. If it is a sea day we might eat in the dining room. Only do room service on the last day when things can be chaotic.
Of course, if my teacher salary would ever get an increase to the point I could afford a verandah, you bet I'd be eating there each morning! :D Or if I could take a cruise in non-peak times when cabins are priced much more reasonably, that would be an option... but the school I teach at only seems to have breaks when cruise prices are high. :(

We love to eat in the dining room on days at sea. It is lovely to be waited on and a very genteel way to start the day.
When are in port and need to get a hurry on we have breakfast in our room. This year we have a balcony so if there are some sunny days we will definitely be eating outside.

What exactly is the Low Down about Suite Passenger not being able to eat in the Pinnacle/Queen's Room for Breakfest and Lunch? We were looking forward to being able to do this for Lunch and Breakfest on our upcoming Ryndam cruise. Have they totally taken this away?

On Maasdam, no breakfast lunch in Queen's Room or Pinnacle. Can't say for sure about the other ships. We always have room service breakfast anyway. The few times we did the King's or Queen's Room/Pinnacle, we did not enjoy it much.

Not sure we would have done it that much, we do like lunch and breakfest in the Main Dining Room and occasionally Room Service Breakfest.

We always went to the buffet on our first cruise as we had shore excursions booked that usually left early, and we liked being able to pick from the fresh fruits, cereals, breads, meats, etc., ourselves as well as to save time by serving ourselves.

I guess HAL figures that the 2 Indonesians who worked in the Queen's Room / King's Room for breakfast and lunch is another way of cutting back. I figure that since HAL has 13 (soon to be down to 12) ships, that is 26 workers that can be cut.
I am still trying to figure out what the Europeans do most of the day since the Pinnacle Grill is open only for dinner. One is assigned to work the Neptune Lounge and they rotate that among them. On our recent Maasdam cruise there were 2 women and 4 men working the Pinnacle Grill which means that they work 1 our of every 6 days in the Neptune Lounge. They report to the Pinnacle to set tables and get ready for diners who start arriving at 6. They are cleaned up by midnight. So what do they do after a good nights sleep? A lot of un-accounted hours for them compared to the other crew members.

Our one DR breakfast experience was so bad on the Ryndam that we ate in the Lido the next six mornings. I was very impressed with HAL's lido restaurant.
However, I'm sure we'll give the DR breakfast a shot on our October cruise since it's 15 nights and my husband likes Eggs Benedict. Hope it's a better experience.

I always have breakfast in the dining room.Being as I live alone,it is great to be waited on and talked to and have as many cups of coffee as I want without having to get up and fetch them myself!I love being looked after by the staff who always go out of their way for me(especially during the earlier cruises on the RotterdamVI)
As for the eggs benedict? What can I say? Except that I would never go to all that trouble for one person,at home......so it's a luxury for me......and that is what cruising is all about IMHO!

On shore days we are up and dressed early and then have breakfast on Lido.
On sea days I will get up and make a couple plates at the Lido buffett and bring them back to the cabin and either eat on the verandah or in the cabin.
GF and I never get to eat breakfast together and usually breakfast is a bagel and coffee, so to relax and enjoy a big breakfast is a treat.

DW has a lite breakfast in the stateroom, not on the balcony as her tea gets cold. I have half a grapefruit and lox sandwich on dry toast in the Lido. Before noon I try to cut down on carbs and fats but do not worry about sodium.

I am definitly not a morning person. Chimera is and enjoys his breakfast much more than I do. When we are at sea, we order a room service breakfast and have it on our verandah. Chimera likes the perk of being able to order from the dining room menu. When we are in port, we enjoyed eating in the King's Room. If that option has been eliminated, Chimera will probably opt for the Lido which he enjoy's very much. He always made the "sacrifice" to eat breakfast with me.

We usually have coffee, pastries and fruit delivered early. DH doesn't care for the humidity on the balcony, so we dine inside. This is usually followed by a nap (the duvets are so inviting) and the real breakfast on the Lido. HAL offers a wonderful assortment of entrees and Hunky Dory makes our day!

We have "first" breakfast in our cabin, "second" breakfast usually in the Lido. What's first and second breakfast you might ask? My DW needs a transfusion of coffee to get going in the morning and it takes a bit of time for her to get up to full speed (like an hour). In the meantime I usually awake way ahead of her and starving by the time she gets up and really hungry by the time she's fully awake and willing to leave the cabin. Now the easy answer is that I should get dressed and go get breakfast by myself but I like to have breakfast with my wife so I wait. (Depending on the weather I take this time to sit out on the verandah and enjoy the early morning at sea or in a new port.) Solution is that we order coffee, juice, and croissants for "first" breakfast in the cabin. Once DW is up to speed we go to the Lido for "second" breakfast. Sometimes, like days in port with early tours, we expand "first" breakfast.

Usually hubby runs up to the Lido and grabs a couple of cups of coffee and a couple of yummies and brings them back to our cabin where we sit out on the balcony to enjoy. Later, once we're up and at 'em and if still hungry, we'll then stop by the Lido to grab something else. But that usually tides us over until lunch.

If I'm out of bed in time on a sea day, the dining room; if on a port day, the Lido; if I ever get a verandah room or suite, the room; if I'm not out of bed in time, room service. But, frankly, it's been my experience that HAL room service food quality is the pits.
