Is it possible to receive a fax on the ship (Maasdam) while cruising? My husband has been requested to leave a fax number at the office.
Thanks,
Dee

Absolutely.
My DH often receives faxes during our cruises. He cannot just walk away from his office and forget it exists.
The communication room is excellent about being sure faxes are brought to passenger cabins very promptly. Of the many faxes he has received through the years aboard all of the ships, it is a rare occasion when it takes more than 30-40 minutes for it to be in our cabin.
But.....be sure your DH makes it possible for them to serve him well.
Anyone faxing him should be certain to mark his name, indicate he is a passenger, put his cabin number. This will speed delivery. If they have to start trying to identify him etc it becomes a nuisance for them and can take time.
It is easy to get fax /telephone numbers for the ships. We always have our TA get those numbers before we leave. (I always carry the ship's telephone number with us when we go ashore in the event something happens and we wish to call the ship. That number rings to the front office. )

Sail, you're the best!!! Thank you so very much for this important information. I was afraid I would get flamed for even asking for a fax number while on vacation, but sometimes, these things are necessary. I'm just glad my hard-working husband is able to get away on this wonderful cruise even if he does have to devote just a few minutes each day to business!
Again, thank you for always being so thorough and helpful in your answers.

Sail, what a great idea to have the number to the front desk on shore in case something happens! I will definitely add this to my "just in case" necessities. I have already put this number in my wallet. Just curious....is the cost of this call the same as the charge for ship to shore that is listed on the card included with documents? Would it be better to give this "front desk" number to the business and family rather than the 900 number listed on the card?
Again, thanks for your help.

:)
A number of years ago, while we were on Princess we got a fax from our attorney and had to fax him back - there wasn't any problem. Expensive - but in case of emergency - great.

Glad the information was helpful to you.
The costs are the same horrendous rates for both calling the front office and for faxes.
DH always discourages people sending him faxes by informing them how costly it will be. He wants them to know what their phone bill will look like...as well as what it will cost them for his time and interruption while on vacation. Hopefully, it makes them think twice before bothering him unless absolutely necessary.
BTW.... in case you are interested. The front office is excellent about getting any Fed Ex envelopes delivered promptly to our cabin. From time to time, DH has received Fed Ex deliveries and they were brought to him very quickly.
In the event this applies to your husband....the best way to have them sent is for them to be delivered to the ship's Port Agent in whatever port is next on the itinerary. The Port Agent will accept delivery from Fed Ex and will deliver it to the ship.
BE CERTAIN PASSENGER'S NAME IS CLEARLY MARKED AS 'PASSENGER', NAME OF SHIP AND HOLLAND AMERICA LINE, CABIN NUMBER CLEARLY INDICATED.

Dee.....It is good that you (and I) both understand that it is not our husband's choice to be interrupted while on vacation. Whether they are workaholics or not is not relevant, frankly, IMO. They have to do what they have to do for whatever their reasons.
I always keep in mind that those folks who might be interrupting him (and my enjoyment), are the same folks who have paid for our cruise (our Suites) in fees/payments etc. They are the ones who provide us with our lifestyle.
So, I am tolerant and keep my mouth shut. Doesn't put extra stress on DH and it gets his work done faster and we are back to "playing".
Hope you have a wonderful cruise and your DH is not badly interrupted.
