Are the HAL beds plush or pillowtop? I didn't look closely so haven't a clue! All I know is they are comfy! We need a new mattress so I'm curious.
Thanks!

We ordered one and it arrived just last week. So far, it is wonderful! It is a plush, not a pillowtop.

We bought a mattress from Holland America after a cruise two years ago. It is great!! It's fun telling our friends that we brought back a mattress as a souvenir. They doubt us until we show them the mattress ticking with Holland America written all over it.

I think HAL has the best beds on the high seas. I sleep like I am on a cloud. They are great.

Are the king-sized beds (in the deluxe suites) made up seamlessly as a single king-sized bed? Or is there a gap one can fall into where the mattresses are pushed together?

They are dreamy! I was going to order a pillowtop for home but now am wondering if plush are more comfy. Anyone know how they compare?
My inn supplier has Sealy unicase mattresses...I'm curious how they compare to the HAL beds!

Since I have only been on one cruise I have no basis for comparison with other lines, but the beds were really wonderful. They were firm but soft at the same time.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents to this post. We purchased one of the Holland America style beds from HAL shortly after the line started selling them and we couldn't be happier. We find even after staying at a top resort or hotel, when we return home the comfort of our bed is the best! :D

Without a doubt, the beds on HAL ships are the class of the cruise industry.
We bought one 2 years ago after our first experience on the Zaandam after she had gone through the SOE upgrade.
My wife has a very bad back and she raves about our HAL bed to everyone!;)

All I know is that I sleep better on our Holland America cruises than I do at home..Even the pillows are comfortable..

Does anyone here know what the difference is between a plush and a pillow top? I have a pillow top in our room at the inn (new this summer) but seem to recall that the plush on HAL was more comfortable! I would think it the other way around.
The HAL dream bed is actually a Sealy, and that's what I order generally for our inn. I was just about to place an order for our home on the mainland and now can't decide between the plush (same as the HAL beds) or a pillowtop!

We visited some friends in a deluxe and didn't take much notice, just saw it was a king. In a normal verandah suite we had two beds pushed together and although very comfortable they are still just two beds pushed together with the gap covered by a sheet. I know lots of people have beds like this at home but it's not what we have at home nor something I'd choose to sleep on if given a choice.
Still laugh about a hotel we stayed at in Bangkok that had a giant bed in the middle of the room made up out of two king size singles pushed together (literally) and still made up as that, that is fully tucked in around each bed.
Maybe HAL should think about putting a single queen/king mattress (of the same comfort as their singles of course!) on beds made up as a queen/king as Celebrity does?

As far as I know, each stateroom has the option of being either two twins or one king. HAL calls it queen...I say it's a king. Two 30" cots = one queen; Two 39" single beds = one king).
Unless they have storage space for all those extra king mattresses, to convert twins into kings, in the bowels of the ship, I don't see that it would work.

Each ship is different at this point. DW was on Westerdam in Sep'06 and loved the mattress. She talked me into sailing the Zuiderdam in Nov'07 (3 weeks ago) and the mattress, though nice, was NOTof the quality she raved about on Westerdam.
We were preparing to buy the mattress after I tried it, but did not have opportunity to try the mattress DW had on Westerdam. She was very disappointed!

This thread is such a "Breath Of Fresh Air" on the Princess board all they ever discuss is getting an 'Egg Crate" soon as they board the ship"

So does their price include the box spring or is that price on the site for each?
Thanks,

When we ordered it was a total package. Again the best mattress we have ever slept on.

We were in a verandah suite on the Noordam last November (2006) and the mattress was absolutely wonderful. This past October we were on the Summit for a two week San Diego/Hawaii and back cruise, this time in a Celebrity Suite. Our mattress was just two cruises old yet it felt like the bed of a pickup truck. Our room steward added a pad but the benefit was marginal. So our next cruise this coming April will be on the Westerdam. FYI ~ I won this cruise at bingo on the Noordam during November 2006 :)

We paid close to 4 grand a few years ago for one of their bad boys and it is not nearly as comfy as the HAL bed! Sadly, the S&F has years to go before I can justify buying a replacement but I wouldn't hesitate for a nano-second to get a HAL bed.
