Hi,
Just wondering is any one on this board who lives or has cruised from Florida' Space Coast is being affected by the Red Tides. We live in Indian Harbour Beach (a few miles north of Melbourne Beach & seven miles south of Coca Beach) . The Red Tide is making lots of people cough, including my husband and me. At Cocoa Beach the dead fish have been washing a shore. O course, Port Canaveral is right there too. Has any one heard of people leaving on (RCL, Carnival, Disney) from Port Canaveral having trouble with coughing or breathing? Are any other Florida port having trouble with red tide.

Geo, can you elaborate on this Red Tide thing and the coughing? I only saw a red tide once, on a beach vacation in San Diego. The water looked yucky, but I don't remember anything about breathing problems for anyone. I'll be anxious to see it in FLL - am totally curious now. :)

I am also interested in learning more as we will be in the area Christmas week on a land vacation. Thank you.

I was also curious as to what "red tide" was....had never heard of it. Here's a link to a wikipedia page that explains it quite well:

Go to 30-day news archives on top left and type in "red tide"
It should come up. It is called Scientists, beachgoers itch for a fix

I'm in the same boat....I'm all organized but here I am, still at work...leaving shortly....once I get those suitcases out, Max and Kitty will be jumping inside if I don't move fast enough!
And on the weather front, Vancouver is in the middle of a snowfall warning, so now Cath has to get through that in the morning! Woe is us!

Yep. We're on the beach north of Daytona and when it was here in October I had such trouble breathing from coughing that I gave up and just stayed in the a/c in the house. Then it left, and suddenly last week I started coughing once again when I went outside. And the smell from the dead fish was awful. Shhhh, so far so good now. (Whispering.)
